Pasarbella’s Own Louisiana Style Seafood: Cajun On Wheels

0

With all the Louisiana-style seafood restaurants popping up all around Singapore, it’s not difficult to enjoy delectable seafood no matter which corner of the country you are in. If anything, it just means being able to satisfy your fishy cravings anytime, any day much more easily.

We took a trip down to Cajun in Wheels, a pop-up store selling Louisiana-style seafood amongst all the other gourmet pop-ups at the newly opened Pasarbella market. It’s pretty hard to miss the bright fire-red lorry that is set up as the store front. With the gigantic crab floating just above the lorry, it really catches your eye in the dim room.

It was certainly a different experience eating straight off the table, where the entire tabletop is essentially your plate. This is pretty much the only time spilling your food all over the table is acceptable, and boy was it liberating.

We tried the crab with salted egg yolk sauce. The sauce was a little too runny, which meant that it ran off the crab shells, and it could barely be tasted. The chilli taste was a little to strong , and at times it overpowered the crab taste. We were told that the sauce was just acting up on that day, and usually it was lumpier. It might be worth a try if you are a truly salted egg yolk fan.

The mussels and clams were more up to standard, and they matched well with the cheesy cream sauce. Same thing, the sauce was a lil bit too rusty, but was quite flavorful. The chicken spam and potatoes were good sides to pair with as well, since the starchy potatoes soaked up the sauce quite well.

There are four different sauces to choose from, which include Cajun cheese, cheesy cream, salted egg yolk and Thai red curry. We got a taste of the Thai red curry sauce tossed with the fish, and it went really well with the pilaf rice. Slightly spicy yet not too flavorful, it complemented the fish, which was quite good because there wasn’t much of the fishy taste that some cooks struggle to remove.

Another trend that saw a rise this year was truffle fries, and Cajun on Wheels jumps right in with their own take. Surprisingly, the truffle fries were really good, and smelled really heavenly. They were quite liberal with their truffle oil, and even after the fries soaked in the various sauces, I could still get a whiff of the truffle oil. For those healthy eaters, there is also an option of truffle sweet potato fries, throwing yet another spin on those carbs which are already so good on their own.

I guess that if you are really rushing for time, you can still grab one of their takeaway boxes that come in individual sizes to eat on the go. You can choose from a range of fish, shrimps and mussels.

While the crab may not be the best out there, the other seafood and sides more than make up for it. Maybe you might be craving a little bit of seafood, and in Pasarbella, this would be the place to go.
