Star Wars Invades Singapore on May the Fourth

The Force is strong at Gardens by the Bay yesterday. Fans of the global phenomenon – the Star Wars movie franchise – gathered at the Supertree Grove at the Singapore attraction for STAR WARS DAY: MAY THE 4TH BE WITH YOU Festival. Happening from 4 to 6 May 2017, the event is a celebration of May the Fourth, otherwise known as Star Wars Day, and the 40th anniversary of the release of Star Wars: A New Hope, the first Star Wars movie.

Gardens by the Bay was bathed in intergalactic music, sights and lights. Amidst official Star Wars characters brought in for the event, fans themselves were sent walking around donned in varying Star Wars outfits and wielding lightsabers.

The main highlight is definitely the SaberTrees Installation. The Supertrees at Gardens by the Bay burst into a Star Wars-themed symphony of lights and sound before transforming into giant lightsabers that cast light beams up to 200 metres high into the sky. This Garden Rhapsody: STAR WARS Edition will play every night from now until 2 June 2017 at 7.45pm and 8.45pm, with additional 9.45pm shows on 4 to 6 May 2017.

Keep your eyes peeled too for the vintage Star Wars toys on display. Worth a cool $200,000, the vintage toys were produced between 1977 and 1985, and have been brought in specially for the event.

More Star Wars-themed events are in the pipeline for Singapore in the second half of the year, including a global fan event to celebrate the launch of Star Wars: The Last Jedi as well as a Star Wars activation at the Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention in September.
