I enjoy going for facials, but somehow, I could never seem to find the right place to go to. Most of the time, the after-effects of my facial have always been rather miserable – my face ends up rather blotchy and dull. As such, I would always try to hide my face or avoid overly crowded areas, in the hope that no one I know will bump into me.
However, this was not the case for me when I visited Annabelle Skin, which uses German cult brand Dr. Belter Cosmetics. Knowing that my face needed some uplifting, I decided to try their latest two-in-one chemical peel offering, the Derm-A ReNew treatment.
Located at The Adelphi, this place is just a two minutes’ walk away from City Hall MRT. For those with busy work schedules or those busy mums, this convenient location is a plus point. You can even to consider squeezing in a quick pick-me-up facial during your lunch hour.
Before starting the treatment, I was given a personal consultation on my skin condition. This helps in checking for sensitivity or disorders that I should take note of. I found this session extremely helpful as I was previously unaware of the state of my skin. While my skin is blemish-free, I did not realise that many parts of skin were rather dry until this consultation. Furthermore, the therapists were extremely patient, analysing the state of my skin and providing helpful advice on how to rectify these issues.
What is great about the Annabelle Skin is their ability to tailor the facial treatments according to your skin type. As my face was rather dry, the therapist decided to focus on moisturising my skin.
Annabelle Skin also provides comfortable beds for you while you have your facial treatment. As I was doing the treatment, my therapist would clearly explain each step of the treatment and why a particular product was being used. I found this extremely informative, as it allowed me to better understand how to deal with my own skin.
So, you may be wondering what is so good about the Derm-A ReNew treatment? Its key selling point is its leverage on Dr. Belter Cosmetic’s signature GreenTec Concept, which focuses on renewing and nourishing your skin.
Did you know that one of the common problems of aged skin is the long regeneration cycle of an estimated 40 days? With the treatment involving chemical peels that use fruit acids, this can stimulate your skin by accelerating its regeneration cycle to an approximately 28 days.
The treatment began with the use of Derm-A ReNew Preparation Cleansing Toner, a refreshing liquid toner that cools the skin before treating it with fruit acids. This is followed by treatment with the Derm-A ReNew Skin Renewal Concentrates. This unique combination of five plant extracts, namely sugar cane, blueberry, orange, lemon and sugar maple, will be applied onto your skin and left on for three to six minutes. These extracts perform magic – they help to breakdown intracellular substances, peel off dead cells and stimulate your skin regeneration.
As this was my first ever fruit acid treatment, my consultant was careful with my treatment. The concentrates applied onto my skin was only 10%. However, the therapist may gradually increase the level of concentrates used, up to 40%, as you progress in your treatment for more effective results.
The second step was to get my skin nourished. The Derm-A ReNew Neutralising Gel was applied to calm and soothe my skin. As my skin was dull and dry, my therapist tailored my treatment by further applying Intensa ampoule #1 Ginkgo Biloba to soothe and repair my skin.
Finally, to combat the dullness of my skin, I was given the Age Control/ Vital C PhysioMarine Mask. This mask contains Acerola and Vitamin C to brighten the complexion of your skin and protects your skin cells against free radicals caused by all that stress.
At the end of the session, my skin felt more renewed after the treatment – it did not have that red or blotchy after-effects as I previously experienced in other facial sessions. I was pretty happy that I could still head out to town, bare-faced, without feeling conscious.
