Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and you probably are looking to pamper your mom with a special dining experience. If you are still racking your brains for ideas on where to go this weekend, look no further. We round up a few of our favourite restaurants for you to take Mommy Dearest to for a nice treat.

Royal Pavilion

If dim sum is Mom’s cup of tea, taking her out for an afternoon of yum cha would be a fail-safe idea. Modern Cantonese cuisine restaurant Royal Pavilion is introducing a “Pockets of Love” dim sum menu specially for Mother’s Day. Available from 1 to 10 May, the extensive menu features 11 items including Baked Chicken Pies in Black Truffle Oil, Foie Gras and Meat Xiao Long Bao, and Baked Swiss BBQ Snow Buns.

Smoked using lychee wood, the duck lived up to its reputation with its crispy, thin skin, succulent meat and strong smokey flavour. Prices for the Mother’s Day menu ranges from $688++ (for six pax) to $1,888++ (for 10 pax).

TAO Seafood Asia

The name of the Mother’s Day menu – “Mrs Lee’s Favourites” – was enough to intrigue us. As it turned out, “Mrs Lee” refers to the wife of Chef Lee, head chef/owner of TAO Seafood Asia. (Yes, we had thought it referred to Mrs Lee Kuan Yew.)

The favourites of Mrs Lee encompass main dishes like Homestyle Wok-fried Prawns (S$30), Pig Trotters with Sea Cucumber (S$48), Steamed Egg with Coconut Juice and Crab Meat (S$9.80 each), and Claypot Braised Chicken and Abalone with Rice Wine (S$48). Cooked to perfection, all these dishes were truly a taste of home. One dish in particular, the Wok-fried Prawns was coated in a savoury sauce of oyster sauce, garlic and sesame oil; its sauce had us licking our fingers and wishing for more.

Tburu Sushi & Grill

For Moms who prefer a quiet afternoon, we suggest Tburu – a two-month-old modern Japanese restaurant opened by Calvin Yeung, owner/founder of One on the Bund and Kiku. Tucked away on level five of orchardgateway@emerald, Tburu transports you away from the bustle of Orchard Road into an exclusive dining oasis with its high ceilings, wide spaces and chic contemporary decor. You can expect an immersive experience like seeing your chosen ingredients being prepared to your liking in front of you – be it sashimi, sushi or grill.

We are pretty sure Mom would appreciate the wide array of premium sushi, sashimi and grill items, for they are all made from the freshest seasonal ingredients flown in directly from Japan. Tburu is offering a Mother’s Day special Celebrate Mother’s Day on 9 and 10 May with 50% off its 8-course omakase at $50+ (usual price: $100+) and free Matcha making for Mom.

KUVO

What if Mom prefers local cuisine and yet going to a hawker centre is not exactly on your list? Consider KUVO which offers delectable Singapore food in a sophisticated setting away from the crowds. You will find a serene and intimate ambience at the multi-concept restaurant. It’s so quiet you’ll forget you are in the heart of Orchard Road, which is why it is Orchard Road’s best-kept secret in our opinion.

KUVO’s enticing menu ranges from Western-style cuisine, like Atlantic Cod Meunière (S$38), to local delights such as Slipper Lobster Laksa Lemak (S$22) and King Prawn Noodle Soup (S$20). Hands to our hearts, the King Prawn Noodle Soup was one of the best in town with its thick flavourful prawn broth and fresh king prawns.
