Red is the colour most closely associated with the Chinese New Year, but this year Carlsberg is introducing a new hue to the occasion, urging revelers to paint the town a vibrant tint of green. To usher in the festive season, Carlsberg has redesigned its cans for the festive period. There are five different traditional sayings with a twist emblazoned across the aluminum containers to put you in the Lunar New Year mood. The five designs include phrases such as abundance of Friendship, Luck, Business, Health and Fortune.

Carlsberg executives, earlier in the week, gathered at the foyer of Capitol Piazza together with representatives from the media, a troupe of lion dancers, and calligraphy artist Christina Chen to kick off the  festivities. Officials from the Guiness Book of Records were also on hand to certify Christina’s attempt at painting the largest chun lian (traditional Chinese New Year calligraphic Banner) in the world. In little under an hour and to much fanfare from the spectators and emcee, Christina completed her rendition of the traditional festive couplet. At 60 metres long, this was a feat never before attempted, and lovers of the time honoured art cheered her on.

Calligraphy artist Christina Chen attempts a world record for writing the biggest chun lian in the world.

After this successful attempt, the pair of lions took over the stage and pranced around the open square, performing acrobatic moves deftly in an attempt to unfurl large crimson banners hung high for the crowds to see.

A raucous visual treat of flying lion acrobatics and artful proses preceded a lunch reception for media representatives and artistes like Jamie Yeo, placing attendees in the very environment in which Carlsberg beer thrives. A boisterous, fun filled fête, where friends are made, connections forged and guards dropped to loud cheers of “yum seng“!

Let the good times flow!
