BYD, in partnership with Sime Motors and its local distributor Vantage Automotive Limited (VAL), has officially introduced its first Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) to Singapore — the SEALION 6 DM-i. With this launch, the Chinese electric vehicle giant expands its range of offerings in Singapore, targeting drivers who are keen on embracing sustainable driving without fully committing to all-electric models just yet.
Having already secured the title of Singapore’s best-selling car brand in 2024 and continuing that momentum into 2025, BYD’s latest move signals a more inclusive approach to electrification. The SEALION 6 DM-i is a clear response to the diverse needs of local drivers, many of whom are still navigating practical considerations such as charging accessibility and range limitations.
A Hybrid That Puts Electric First
At the heart of the SEALION 6 DM-i is BYD’s proprietary DM-i Super Hybrid system — a combination of an 18.3kWh Blade Battery and a 1.5L high-efficiency petrol engine. This hybrid setup prioritises electric driving but offers the peace of mind of extended range when needed. For most city commutes, the SUV delivers up to 80 km of pure electric range (WLTC), while its total system output of 217 kW and 300 Nm of torque ensures a lively and efficient drive.
Rated at a fuel consumption of just 5.7L/100 km (WLTC), and supported by a 60L fuel tank, the SEALION 6 DM-i is designed to go the distance — all while delivering a seamless driving experience that’s smooth, responsive, and impressively quiet.
This front-wheel drive SUV is built with everyday practicality and urban mobility in mind. It combines city-ready manoeuvrability with a range of smart, comfort-oriented features. A tight 5.5m turning radius makes it ideal for navigating narrow roads and tight parking spaces — a welcome feature for Singapore’s often-congested driving environment.
Inside, the SEALION 6 DM-i boasts a thoughtfully designed cabin that merges functionality with innovation. Highlights include a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual wireless charging pads, and a premium Infinity® audio system.
For those who prioritise comfort, the vehicle comes with heated and ventilated power-adjustable front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and even Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability — allowing drivers to power electronic devices directly from the car’s battery.
James Ng, Managing Director of BYD Singapore and Philippines, shared that the launch of the SEALION 6 DM-i represents more than just a new model — it reflects the brand’s evolving strategy in helping drivers transition toward greener mobility.
“Electrification is a journey, and that journey looks different for every driver,” he noted. “The SEALION 6 DM-i bridges that gap for those who aren’t quite ready to go fully electric, offering an electric-first experience backed by the confidence of extended range.”
Buyers can also expect long-term value and peace of mind — the car comes with a 10-year servicing package and a 10-year warranty for the Blade Battery.
On the safety front, the SEALION 6 DM-i doesn’t skimp. Equipped with six airbags, a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control, and a suite of Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS), the vehicle is designed to ensure every journey is as safe as it is smooth.
Anthony Teo, Managing Director of VAL, highlighted that this model could be the ideal entry point for those new to electrified vehicles. “It’s a smart, approachable way to get more people into sustainable driving — without compromising on performance, comfort or practicality,” he said.
The BYD SEALION 6 DM-i is now available at showrooms across the island, priced at S$212,888 with COE.
