The much-anticipated new BMW iX has officially launched in the city-state, bringing with it a powerful blend of innovation, efficiency, and the unmistakable aura of BMW’s luxury DNA. More than just a facelift, this latest iteration of BMW’s fully electric Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) represents a quantum leap in design, performance, connectivity and driving experience.
With a staggering WLTP range of up to 602 kilometres, a newly refined drive system, intelligent digital features and a monolithic presence that demands attention, the new iX is perfectly calibrated for Singapore’s progressive and eco-conscious urban drivers.
A Design Philosophy That Stands Apart
Even before you touch the start button—or in this case, simply walk up with your smartphone in your pocket—the new BMW iX makes a strong visual impression. Its design is defined by bold minimalism and sharp detailing. The signature BMW kidney grille now features the “Iconic Glow” contour lighting, while vertical and diagonal structures within the grille offer a futuristic aesthetic. Slim vertical LED daytime running lights and adaptive LED headlights with cornering function lend a piercing stare to the front profile.
Body-coloured front and rear aprons give the car a sporty yet elegant appearance, and new exterior finishes such as Arctic Race Blue, Dune Grey, and BMW Individual Frozen Deep Grey add further individuality. Opt for the M Sport package and you’ll get even more visual drama—striking air intakes, dark M Shadow Line lights, and vertical rear reflectors that speak to its athletic aspirations.
A Powerhouse Under the Skin
This car doesn’t just look bold; it backs up its looks with performance. Powered by BMW’s fifth-generation eDrive technology, the iX xDrive45 is equipped with electric motors on both axles, offering all-wheel-drive capabilities. It churns out 408 hp (300 kW) and 700 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in a brisk 5.1 seconds—1.0 second quicker than the previous xDrive40 model.
More impressive, perhaps, is the bump in battery capacity—now at 94.8 kWh. That translates to up to 602km of range on a single charge, thanks to enhanced power electronics, an all-new inverter, adaptive energy recuperation, and BMW’s EfficientDynamics suite of technologies. It’s a vehicle built for the long haul—whether that’s a cross-border drive to Malaysia or just a week of city commuting without charging anxiety.
Charging Reinvented
BMW’s engineers clearly understand that a great EV isn’t just about range—it’s also about how easily and quickly it can recharge. The new iX can charge via DC at up to 175 kW, meaning a quick coffee break can give you hundreds of kilometres of range. For AC charging at home or the office, the iX supports up to 22 kW.
Singaporean buyers can choose from two compelling charging solutions:
- Home Charging: A complimentary BMW Wallbox with free installation, delivering up to 22 kW AC charging.
- Public Charging: A partnership with Shell Recharge gives drivers up to three years of free public charging (up to 10,000 kWh), covering roughly 50,000 km based on average consumption.
Better yet, route planning and charging station integration are now seamlessly built into the BMW Maps system. Through the My BMW app, users can plan trips, select preferred charging providers, set desired charge levels, and include stopovers—all from their phone.
Space-Age Interior, Grounded in Comfort
Step inside, and the iX’s cabin feels more like a high-end lounge than a vehicle. The design is open, airy and uncluttered. A floating centre console, flat floor and panoramic Sky Lounge glass roof (available as an option) enhance the feeling of space. Natural materials, recycled fabrics and leather options showcase BMW’s commitment to sustainability—without compromising luxury.
Standard across all models is the BMW Live Cockpit Professional, which includes a curved 14.9-inch control display and a 12.3-inch digital driver display—all powered by the new BMW Operating System 8.5. The interface supports touchscreen and voice control via the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, now smarter than ever.
And for those who like their drives to come with a soundtrack, the standard Harman Kardon surround sound system delivers rich acoustics, while audiophiles can upgrade to the optional Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound system for a concert hall experience.
Digital Life on Wheels
The new iX doesn’t just keep up with tech trends—it sets them. It supports in-car video streaming (including YouTube) and even in-car gaming for when you’re parked or waiting at the charger. Fast 5G connectivity, personalised BMW ID profiles and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto all come as standard.
The BMW Digital Key Plus lets you leave your keys at home. Using ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, it turns your smartphone or smartwatch into a digital key. Walk up to the car and it unlocks automatically. Walk away and it locks. It can even be shared with family or friends—with access restrictions if needed.
Ride Quality Meets Sports DNA
Beneath the chassis, BMW has reworked the suspension setup to better complement the new weight distribution from the optimised battery pack. A double-wishbone front axle and five-link rear axle provide a balanced, composed ride. Hill Descent Control, Dynamic Stability Control (which can now be deactivated), and 21-inch aerodynamic wheels come standard.
For those craving dynamic flair, the M Sport package introduces M multifunction seats, a sport steering wheel, anthracite headlining and M pedals—turning the iX into a subtly aggressive performer, perfect for Singapore’s winding expressways.
Smarter Safety and Assistance
The iX also comes packed with intelligent safety and driver assistance features. As standard, you’ll find Driving Assistant Plus, which includes Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, front collision warning with automatic braking, and Parking Assistant Plus with 3D Surround View.
Want to show off a bit? The optional Parking Assistant Professional allows you to manoeuvre the car into tight spots remotely using your smartphone. Perfect for when those mall car park spaces look extra tight on weekends.
