Singapore has just hit the accelerator on its journey to becoming an electric vehicle (EV) powerhouse, and at the centre of it all is the newly launched Kia EV5 – the first-ever Kia model to be assembled right here in the Lion City. This isn’t just another EV. This is a game-changer, built by Singapore, for Singapore.
Launching a New Era in Singapore’s Mobility Scene
The highly anticipated Kia EV5 made its official debut on 28 May 2025, following months of buzz since its curtain-raiser at the Singapore Motorshow in January. The moment marks a significant milestone not just for Kia, but for Singapore’s automotive ambitions – with the EV5 proudly rolling out of the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS), a cutting-edge facility that fuses robotics, artificial intelligence and human craftsmanship.
Cycle & Carriage Kia, the local distributor, introduced the EV5 in three appealing variants – Air, Earth and GT-Line – and Singaporeans have plenty to get excited about. It’s stylish, smart, and sustainable. More importantly, it’s ours.
“This launch represents an extraordinary moment for both Kia and Singapore,” said Wilfrid Foo, Managing Director of Cycle & Carriage Singapore. “The EV5 delivers on every front—style, practicality, innovation, and accessibility. We believe it will be warmly received by Singaporeans ready to embrace the future of sustainable driving.”
As the first Kia to be assembled in Singapore, the EV5 stands tall as a testament to what’s possible when advanced technology meets bold vision. With more than 200 collaborative robots at HMGICS working alongside skilled staff, the production process boasts over 50% automation – making it one of the most advanced automotive facilities in the region.
The EV5: Bold, Brilliant, and Built for Modern Life
Let’s get to the car itself. Designed with Kia’s “Opposites United” philosophy in mind, the EV5 merges futuristic elegance with muscular power. At the front, a striking Digital Tiger Face is flanked by Star Map LED lights that wrap gracefully to the rear – giving it that unmistakably confident presence. Muscular fenders, sleek D-pillars and auto-flush door handles round off a silhouette that’s as aerodynamic as it is stylish.
Inside, the cabin takes a page from interior design trends – think lounge-meets-cockpit. With a class-leading height of 1,715mm and a long 2,750mm wheelbase, passengers can expect generous legroom and headroom. Add a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, digital cluster, and a 5.3-inch climate panel – all merged into a seamless Panoramic Wide Display – and you’ve got a truly futuristic driving experience.
The Earth and GT-Line variants even come with Kia’s ultra-comfortable Relaxation Seat for the driver, complete with lumbar support, a leg rest and massage functionality. Talk about commuting in luxury.
Practicality Meets Innovation
If you’re a weekend warrior or just love your boot space, the EV5 delivers in spades. You’ll get 513 litres of boot space – enough for school bags, golf clubs, or grocery hauls. Fold the rear seats flat, and it opens up a cavernous 1,714 litres. There’s even a 67-litre frunk (that’s front-trunk, for the uninitiated) for extra storage.
Smart touches abound – from a power tailgate that lets you customise opening speed and height, to a unique temperature-controlled storage drawer (available on Earth and GT-Line) that keeps drinks cool or food warm between 5°C and 55°C.
Oh, and did we mention the multi-purpose folding table and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) outlets? Whether you’re camping, picnicking, or just working remotely, this EV has your back – literally. You can even power an electric grill or projector for a movie night under the stars.
Performance That Packs a Punch
The EV5 comes in three variants, all offering something a little different:
- Air: The most accessible model, featuring a 100 kW motor with 310 Nm of torque. It boasts a WLTP range of 400 km and charges from 10% to 80% in just 36 minutes.
- Earth: Steps it up with an 88.1 kWh battery offering a class-leading 540 km range. Fast charging gets you back on the road in just 38 minutes.
- GT-Line: For the thrill-seekers. Dual-motor, all-wheel-drive, 230 kW of power and 0–100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds. Yet it still delivers a healthy 470 km of range.
All models benefit from a low centre of gravity thanks to the underfloor battery placement, ensuring a planted, stable ride – perfect for our urban stop-start traffic or winding road getaways up north.
Kia hasn’t cut any corners when it comes to safety. The EV5 includes advanced driver-assistance systems such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Following Assist, and Smart Cruise Control. Add to that a high-strength chassis built to protect passengers and the battery during impacts, and you’ve got peace of mind wherever you go.
And for tech-savvy drivers, the EV5 features a fingerprint recognition system and head-up display, ensuring each drive starts seamlessly and safely.
