Hidden Gems are Such a Cliché, but Angie’s Oyster Bar & Grill is the Real Deal

I personally dislike the term ‘hidden gem’. For one, the term has been overused in the world of dining; every single restaurant is described as a hidden gem by TikTokkers and Instagrammers. But in the case of Angie’s Oyster Bar & Grill, it is the real deal. Tucked away within the industrial enclave of Tan Boon Liat Building, Angie’s is a true blue hidden gem that offers a refreshing escape into a world of culinary delights. Now, who would have expected to find a good restaurant at a spot that is better known for selling furniture?

Recently revamped, this restaurant now boasts a refreshed look and an exciting new menu, making it a noteworthy destination for food enthusiasts in Singapore. Previously located within Singapore’s Central Business District, the recent renovations at Angie’s Oyster Bar & Grill have elevated its charm, blending upscale elegance with a touch of coastal warmth. The restaurant now features a stunning copper wall, an upgraded live oyster tank, and improved lighting in the alfresco area, creating a vibrant yet cozy atmosphere. With a spacious 100-seat capacity, guests can choose to dine in the sophisticated main area or the vibrant alfresco section adorned with fairy lights and greenery.

Chef’s Seasonal Menu: A Culinary Adventure

Angie’s new Chef’s Seasonal Menu is a testament to its commitment to quality and innovation. Available daily for dinner, the menu offers a meticulously curated selection of dishes that showcase the freshest produce and inventive culinary techniques. Diners can choose between a four-course meal at S$78++ or a six-course feast at S$98++, with optional wine pairings to elevate the experience.

The six-course menu begins with the Chef’s Special Selection of Oysters, featuring innovative dressings like plum-infused horseradish with shiso, passionfruit ponzu and Tsuyataro cucumber with cold-pressed olive oil. Each oyster is a unique bite, designed to enhance the natural flavours of the seafood.

One standout dish is the Blue Tasting of the Sea, a playful trio that includes bluefin tuna with negi on crispy rice, Galician blue prawn tartar with flying fish roe, and blue swimmer crab slaw on homemade spiced papadum. This dish beautifully captures the essence of the ocean with its fresh and vibrant flavours.

The main courses on the Chef’s Seasonal Menu offer delightful choices for all palates. Seafood lovers can indulge in the Wild Line-Caught Fish and Chips, featuring New Zealand wild-caught halibut and line-caught barramundi in a signature stout batter, served with crushed peas and homemade jalapeño tartar sauce.

For meat enthusiasts, the Australian Hanwoo F1 Ribeye is a must-try. This 200-day grain-fed ribeye is cooked to a perfect medium-rare and served with a red wine reduction, broccolini, potato pavé, and a choice of house-made peppercorn or Bordelaise sauce.

Seafood aficionados will appreciate the Cold-Water Lobster Linguine, where charcoal-grilled Boston lobster sits atop a bed of seafood marinara linguine, enhanced by a rich, umami-infused sauce and a drizzle of homemade lobster oil.

Dessert at Angie’s is just as impressive, with offerings like the Strawberry Meringue with Toasted Coconut Gelato. This playful twist on the classic Eton Mess features coconut gelato surrounded by strawberry crumble, strawberry-swirled meringue chips, sliced strawberries, and lychee pearls, making it a delightful finish to any meal. This dessert also serves as a special tribute to Singapore’s 59th National Day, available as an à la carte option for S$18.

At the heart of Angie’s philosophy is an unwavering commitment to quality and sustainability. All seafood is sustainably sourced, and the restaurant prides itself on preparing everything from scratch, including homemade sauces, fresh fermented ricotta cheese, and even kombucha. This dedication ensures that each dish is free from preservatives and additives, offering diners a pure and authentic culinary experience.

To complement the exquisite menu, Angie’s offers a curated wine list and a variety of other beverages, including Japanese sake and tea-infused cocktails. Highlights include the Eugenia, a refreshing mix of hibiscus, gin, St. Germain, passionfruit, and grapefruit. For those looking for a fun night out, the restaurant offers enticing Happy Hour deals and Ladies’ Night every Wednesday, featuring free-flow lychee martinis.

The refreshed Angie’s Oyster Bar & Grill is a hidden gem that promises a memorable dining experience with its innovative dishes and inviting atmosphere. Whether you’re there for a breezy lunch, a romantic dinner, or a celebratory gathering, Angie’s offers a culinary escape that’s hard to beat.
