Christmas Feasting on a Budget? Tanglin Cookhouse’s Festive Feasts Come Through

0

Time flies and it’s that time of the year again where the Christmas jingles seem to be following you everywhere. With the ubiquitous red and green decor ushering in the festive season, what better way to commemorate Christmas than with a delectable traditional feast?

When you’ve finished your jaunt along Orchard Road’s yearly light up, make a quick stop at Tanglin Mall and you’ll find yourself before Tanglin Cookhouse. This December, Tanglin Cookhouse is hoping to pay homage to its roots and bring back classic British cuisine with its Christmas Set meals and Family Feasts. Its colonial-style setting hopes to transport you back to Singapore in the 1950s, where it draws its menu inspiration from.

Christmas 3-course Lunch Set at $48++

Available for both lunch and dinner, the dine-in set menu is full of drool-worthy offerings for all palates. Whether it’s a dreamy date or a cosy friend reunion, it’s designed to suit all taste buds as you can select your favourite starters or mains. The three-course set lunch includes a starter, main and dessert and is available at $48++. The various mains span across Green Harissa Confit Duck Leg or Potato Crusted Halibut, there’s even a vegetarian option of a sumptuous Veggie Welly.

For dinner, traditional favourites are featured. You can opt for a three or four-course set menu at the affordable prices of $58++ or $68++, which serve up more than enough to keep you stuffed. Similar to lunch, you can expect a range of starters, mains, dessert and an additional soup to keep your bellies warm.

We were able to savour the Smoked Salmon and Prawns as a starter, with the gingerflower and lime vinaigrette adding a zesty touch. The next course is a simple but well done Creamy Celeriac Soup designed to provide maximum comfort with each sip, and lived up to its name with how rich it was.

Left: Crispy Roasted Pork Belly | Right: Pistachio Crusted Salmon

For our mains, we opted for the Christmas Turkey Wellington, which came as a really filling portion. The surprisingly tender turkey slice was cooked in a flaky Wellington pastry, which went well with its accompanying sauces. Even if you’re not a huge fan of turkey, the other alternatives of Crispy Roasted Pork Belly and Pistachio Crusted Salmon are just as satisfying. For a meat-free alternative, the restaurant also offers Roasted Stuffed Aubergines – a combination of roasted vegetables dressed with blue cheese, walnuts and green harissa yoghurt.

A joyful Christmas Bread and Butter Pudding for dessert

No quintessential Christmas experience would be complete without dessert. To top things off, you can choose from their Gingerbread & White Chocolate Mousse Trifle, or a classic Christmas Bread and Butter Pudding. Digging into the latter, each mouthful scooped up layers of Danish pastry flavoured with rum and raisin and cocoa cinnamon egg that was a sinful pairing with the Thai coconut ice cream.

A peek at the Christmas Takeaway Feast featuring a whole roasted turkey

If the predictions are true and we can expect 24°C cool weather that will keep you tucked at home, Tanglin Cookhouse is also offering a takeaway menu that feeds six to eight pax for your Christmas gatherings. Fill your bellies with Christmas merriment even within your own four walls with  their Family Feast options.

Priced at $238 per menu, their comprehensive set includes a main of either Christmas Beef Wellington or the option of a Whole Roasted Turkey seasoned and stuffed with their festive blends. The sides inclusive of Christmas Roasted Butternut & Apple Salad and Rudolph Pie also save you the hassle of going through the kitchen prep, and will keep everyone stuffed more than your stockings.

To close off the night on a sweet note, The Queen’s Christmas Pudding is served as dessert – a delightful medley of fruits and nuts showered in a bourbon crème anglaise. These sets are available for delivery all through December but be sure to make your order at least five working days in advance on their website.

This all goes to show that Christmas feasting doesn’t always have to be extravagant. In all, having tried the food ourselves, it’s definitely an affordable way to spend time with your loved ones over a course meal – and shows that good food and vibes don’t always have to break the bank. Make your reservations with Tanglin Cookhouse today and your tummies can thank us later.

These sets are available all through the month from 1 to 31 December, and you can reserve a spot over at https://www.tanglincookhouse.com.sg/reservations.
