7 Light Installations of i Light Marina Bay for Shutterbugs and Selfies

Singapore’s light art festival i Light Marina Bay is back again. The free-admission festival has grown to be quite an attraction, something akin to Vivid Sydney in Australia.

This year, 25 artistic works from all over the world will be displayed around the water body, creating enough reasons for shutterbugs to train their cameras on. Here are some of the installations that you should get your cameras ready for.

1. Light Origami

Vivid Sydney - The Rocks

Step into this structure where one is bathed in light reflected from the mirrored panels inside an origami structure, akin to looking through the diamond from the inside. This will create a beautiful background for a portraiture.

2. Moon Haze

Situated just beside One Marina Bay and Customs House, the ‘moon’ is pretty awesome, creating a weird vibe to the area. The brightness of the moon will be tweaked in real time by the impurities in the air – the cleaner the air, the brighter the moon. Just hope that there are lesser cars around when you are shooting.

3. What A Loving and Beautiful World

The image projection on the façade of the ArtScience Museum has been a crowd favourite since i Light was started.  This year,  visitors can visit ilight.team-lab.com to choose a kanji/han character and flick it off the phone or tablet screen and wait for it to be shown on the wall. This is definitely better than doing graffiti.

4. Marine Constellations

Lasers will be beamed across the river to link several buildings at the Marina Bay area together. The idea is to lead the eyes around the area. To fully enjoy this panoramic display, I guess it would be nice to be perched on top of a building such as Marina Bay Sands, One Raffles Place or the Marina Bay Financial Centre.

5. Angels of Freedom

Ladies, fulfil your dream of becoming a Victoria’s Secret model here – well, sort of. You can take photos of a friend or yourself with these five sets of beautifully lit wings coupled with the Marina Bay Sands in the background. This would be a crowd pleaser for sure!

6. Shadow Bath

A huge inflatable donut with black and transparent stripes help to create a pretty nice shadow effect on the grass patch just next to it. Members of the public can enter into the donut and the combined shadows and silhouette would be a sight to behold.

7. Bolt

Tubes of lighting are hung on scaffolding and when the buttons on the installation are pressed, it creates lightning effect. Wait long enough you can have light surrounding you.

i Light Marina Bay will be on from 4 March till 27 March, from 7.30pm to 11.00pm on weekday nights and will extend to 12 midnight on weekends. Do remember to tag your photos with #ilightmarinabay for a chance for your photos to be shown on the official website www.ilightmarinabay.sg.
