The results are out for the highly anticipated Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants. For the second consecutive year, Gaggan has ousted all competition and come out tops for the award. The fourth edition of the awards ceremony – sponsored by San Pellegrino and Acqua Panna – was held at the W Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand on 29 February.

Tokyo’s Narisawa also retained its ranking from last year, staying at second place. Singapore’s Restaurant André rose two spots from last year to take the third place.

Chef Gaggan

Kolkata-born Chef Anand Gaggan takes home the top honours for his restaurant, Gaggan.

Helmed by Chef Anand Gaggan, winning restaurant Gaggan has making waves in the Thai capital with its ‘progressive Indian cuisine’ since 2010. It took the coveted title from another Bangkok-based restaurant Nahm back in 2014.

This year, Singapore has 10 restaurants that made it to the esteemed list. Japan, too, has the same number, out of which seven are in Tokyo. Hong Kong has nine on the list.

The 2016 list also sees 10 new entries and representation by 13 nations in all. The awards are based on votes cast by over 300 chefs, restaurateurs and experts in six different countries across Asia.
