A Taste of Around the World in 80 Days

Ever wanted to know what a book’s equivalent in dishes would be? Well, wonder no more — Swensen’s has taken on a challenge to bring foodies on a round-the-world trip inspired by the novel of the same name.

Launching their newly themed dishes “Around The World In More Than 80 Days”, Swensen’s would be introducing a new dish every month — one dish from each continent (hence the title of their new series).

SWENSENS-2

Thailand-inspired Pineapple Fried Rice Paradise.

For this month, the first country I got a taste of was Thailand in their Pineapple Fried Rice Paradise (S$15.90). The Wahoo fish that topped the dish was slightly firmer and tasted good, albeit a bit hard for my liking. Whilst the dish had the right balance of sweet and spicy in its Thai sauce, the rice was a little bit too dry that got caught in my throat whenever I swallowed. Hopefully they will improve on that aspect.

SWENSENS-3

Japan-inspired Essentially Hambagu.

Next up, there was the Japan-inspired Essentially Hambagu (S$15.90), which was pretty much a hamburg steak in itself. Cooked to perfection, the steak was not too tough or undercooked. There were also shiitake mushrooms mixed into the ground beef to add more flavour to the dish, drenched in their Japanese barbeque sauce. Salad lovers would also find delight in the salad on the side, which was garnished with a house mix of sesame dressing that somehow makes you hungrier the more you eat.

SWENSENS-1

Madhatter’s Ciabatta Tea Set.

Also, for huge time fans of Swensen’s, the Ciabatta Tea Set (S$5) is back again. The ciabatta rolls are creamy buttery buns that melt in your mouth. It was certainly a different change to the bread that you get at your local bakery. To help you wash down the buttery goodness, finish it off with their recently launched custom-roasted coffee to while the afternoon away.

Swensen’s Around The World In More Than Eighty Days Menu has launched in Swensen’s restaurants island wide on 1 January 2016, and will run till 31 December 2016. The Ciabatta Tea Set is only available every day at 2.30pm to 5.oo pm. All dishes are offered at all Swensen’s outlets.
