Sponsored Video: AXA SmartFamily Pitches Designers Against Parents in Social Experiment

0

All parents naturally want the best things for their kids. Now, what happens if parents get to have a say in the products for their children? Will the products turn out to be ideal or will they turn out to be worse than before?

Insurance company AXA recently came up with an interesting social experiment, in which a group of designers is pitched against a group of parents in a competition to redesign three children’s products – the pram, rocking horse and high chair. The designers, being designers, are inherently more concerned with the functionality and innovation of the products, while the parents care more about practicality, usefulness and safety.

For the completion, both teams are given 90 minutes to brainstorm, plan and come up with a redesign of three common products for kids. At the end of the competition, the final designs from each team are shown to members of the public who get to vote for their favourite idea.
