The best shopping, to me, is not found at your typical shopping malls. It’s at flea markets. There’s something intriguing about shopping at flea markets that cannot be explained. Perhaps it’s the thrill of sifting through clothing, antiquarian books and second-hand curios. Or, the joy of finding a piece of vintage clothing at a steal. Browsing through all those near-forgotten gems is almost like an adventure to me.
In the past, I could only look forward to such experiences in cities like London where regular flea markets can be found, but now Singapore has our very own version in the Great Singapore Garage Sale (GSGS)!
Into its fourth run, the GSGS is back on 24 October happening at an unused carpark space at Tampines Industrial Cresent, a mere five minutes’ walk from IKEA Tampines. Highly anticipated by bargain hunters, it is a community event where you can pre-loved items such as clothes, toys, furniture, ornaments, bric-a-brac, electronic goods and more.
The GSGS started running in March 2015 with its first home at the Goodman Arts Centre with just 25 stalls. Since then, it has been growing in popularity and attracting more and more people. For the fourth edition of the GSGS, the event organisers are looking at close to 100 stalls. The GSGS is also a family-friendly event too, with activities such as face-painting and balloon modelling planned for kids.
Have fun scouring the whole gamut of pre-loved items!
