If you are a regular taxi user in Singapore, chances are you have tried mobile apps such as GrabTaxi to book taxis at one point or another. You may have also heard of GrabCar, but may not have tried it.
What is GrabCar?
GrabCar is basically started by the same folks behind GrabTaxi, who recognise the fact that there may not be enough taxis to meet public demand especially during peak hours. It is a licensed private hire vehicle booking service that uses private cars as an alternative transport option for people.
How to Use GrabCar
If you have used the GrabTaxi mobile app before, you will be able to use GrabCar easily. To book a GrabCar vehicle, you use the same GrabTaxi app, except that you choose from four different categories of GrabCar – GrabCar (Economy), GrabCar+ (Premium), GrabCar 6-seater and GrabCar 13-seater – depending on your needs and budget.
Simply choose the pick-up location and the destination on the app. The fare is displayed upfront before you confirm the booking, so you won’t get any surprises.
Recently, I decided to give GrabCar a shot when I returned to Singapore after an overseas trip. My GrabCar driver, Ken, was punctual and even sent me an SMS to inform me of his arrival.
Ken was friendly and took the trouble to ask if the air-conditioning was fine when I got into the car. I was also surprised to find bottled water being provided for passengers too. My ride home was fast and smooth. This sure beats having to join the long queue for taxis at the airport!
Considering giving GrabCar a try?
Good news, from now till 5 July 2015, you can get S$8 off your GrabCar ride by using the promo code “GRABASIA” (one-time use only). Have a pleasant GrabCar ride!
