World’s leading hotel operator Accor has been appointed Pristine Islands Investment Pte Ltd to manage two hotel properties in the Maldives. The 68-villa Mercure Kooddoo resort and the 120-villa Pullman Maamutaa resort will open in 2016 and 2018 respectively. The two resorts mark Accor’s first two hotels in the Maldives and will be located in the Gaafu Alifu Atoll in the south of the archipelago.
“We are thrilled to announce our first two hotels in the Maldives at a time when the region is enjoying excellent growth, especially with travellers from Asia Pacific,” said Michael Issenberg, Chairman and CEO of Accor Asia-Pacific.
“The Mercure and Pullman resorts will provide great options for travellers looking for world-class accommodation in the middle of this unspoilt lagoon and we look forward to working with Pristine to bring these exciting projects to fruition.”
The Mercure Kooddoo resort will be the only Maldivian beach resort directly accessible by domestic plane, without the need of an additional journey via speedboat. Of its 68 villas, 43 will be located over water and 25 scattered along the beach. The property will include an all-day dining restaurant, lounge and a dive centre, among myriad facilities.
The five-star Pullman Maamutaa will be a ‘one-island, one-resort project’ located just 10 minutes by speedboat from the new Kooddoo Airport. It will feature 80 spacious bungalows set over the water and 40 around the beach. Guests can expect quality facilities such as a sunset bar, specialty restaurant, watersports centre and many others.
French-based Accor is present in 92 countries with more than 3,600 hotels. Besides the Mercure and Pullman brands, Accor’s broad portfolio also includes familiar brands such as Sofitel, Novotel, Gallery and ibis.
