Capitaland and the Singapore Tourism Board Launch CapitaVerse in Singapore

The third version of CapitaLand’s CapitaVerse began with a 24-hour opening party on 8 April 2024. This year’s edition is historic for a number of reasons: first, it is being held on Roblox, the most popular metaverse gaming platform in the world; second, it is brought to Singapore Wanderland; and third, it is extended beyond a one-day event to improve engagement and interactions within the online gaming community.

CapitaVerse’s Roblox landing in Singapore Wanderland showcases the limitless potential of collaboration in delivering unique retailtainment experiences to more people. Before their latest metaverse collaboration, CapitaLand, and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) started a three-year partnership in 2022 to promote Singapore and CapitaLand malls as must-visit lifestyle destinations and introduce new retail concepts. The partnership have included a plethora of exciting events and experiences.

STB’s Singapore Wanderland, which takes a lighthearted approach to Singaporean landmarks, will feature CapitaVerse, the country’s first and only virtual shopping mall. More than 7.6 million people have visited the game’s website since its introduction on May 11, 2023. During last year’s 24-hour virtual party, CapitaVerse attracted nearly 2,000 players, and 1,200 restricted non-fungible tokens (NFTs) were claimed within hours of debut. With Roblox as host, CapitaVerse can tap into the platform’s enormous user base of about 71.5 million daily active users. This opens up a global audience for CapitaVerse, allowing it to promote Singapore as a destination offering unique retail experiences.

Brand Stories Told Through Games, Quests, and Performances

Launched on 8 April 2024 and will remain live until 31 October 2024 , CapitaVerse will incorporate Singapore Wanderland’s lively and whimsical look. It will feature brilliant colors and unique adaptations of the iconic CapitaLand mall, Funan, as well as immersive shophouses and landmark structures from brand partners. CapitaVerse allows brands to express their brand stories through gamification, with missions created to reflect each brand.

All CapitaVerse players will receive a CapitaVerse Attendance Badge. This will grant access to real-world rewards in CapitaLand malls featuring over 30 participating brands.

Roblox, which is aimed at users of all ages, allows players to design their own avatars before beginning on a discovery quest on Finders’ Isle in the Singapore Wanderland. When players enter CapitaVerse, they will be met by the distinctive Funan mall façade, which incorporates design elements such as the multimedia art project Kinetic Wall, a rooftop urban farm and vertical garden, and a wide mix of colourful, inviting shophouses.

The visual style and interactive gameplay components of CapitaVerse were greatly influenced by Publicis Play, the gaming, esports, and web3 specialized practice of Publicis Groupe. Incorporating a wide variety of retail partners into the dynamic 3D environment, they have given millions of players throughout the world a new way of seeing Singapore.

Bandwagon Labs is a unique entertainment media business that has collaborated with CapitaLand on three occasions; they are crucial in crafting the enthralling entertainment section that features Glenn Yong.

At the launch celebration, fans from all around the area were engrossed in an incredible experience. Glenn Yong sang original songs live on stage, while gamers’ avatars danced their hearts out and waved virtual light sticks in time with the music. Not content to stop there, Glenn joined in on player-vs-player games and handed out exclusive prizes.

TURF WAR: Fashionistas vs. Foodies.

Another fun part of the event is the exclusive mini-game “TURF WAR: Fashionistas vs. Foodies”. On CapitaVerse, users compete for real-world awards and prizes. The prizes are valued over $100,000 and there are more than 3,000 of them up for grabs.

Mr. Chris Chong, CEO of CapitaLand Investment’s Retail & Workspace (Singapore & Malaysia) division, was among the many who were delighted with the partnership with Singapore Tourism Board. He lauded the opportunity to join efforts to promote Singapore’s thriving nightlife through the CapitaVerse experiential party, which has won multiple awards.

Chong added that CapitaVerse just shows how CapitaLand is always looking for new ways to take advantage of opportunities and provide immersive lifestyle experiences that go beyond the typical interactions between shoppers and retailers.

Members of the online community have shown tremendous enthusiasm for past CapitaVerse editions, viewing this platform as an opportunity to meet other metaverse enthusiasts while also delving into a virtual version of CapitaLand. The newest iteration of CapitaLand takes digital gamification to new heights, thrilling players in the area and beyond with enticing real-world prizes.

The Singapore Tourism Board’s Assistant Chief Executive, Marketing Group Kenneth Lim said that the collaboration with CapitaLand is a natural outgrowth of the immensely popular Roblox game Singapore Wanderland, which attracted a large number of players who were enthusiastic about visiting Singapore. Lim claims that the vast range of brands carried by CapitaLand motivates the Singapore Tourism Board and CapitaLand to provide customers with engaging shopping experiences. Lim elaborates by saying that the partnership will help local tourism businesses and partners test out new ideas and reach virtual audiences, and it will also help achieve the overarching goal of making Singapore Wanderland a hub for greater interaction between local and international communities.
