Sushi Tei is by no means an unfamiliar name in our local Japanese food scene – for me, it’s been a childhood staple where I first learned to love iconic Japanese dishes like cha soba. Since its beginnings in 1994 in Holland Village, it has been reliably satiating our appetite for Japanese cuisine across their numerous outlets.
Now, get ready to welcome Sushi Tei’s revamped Holland Village branch in the new One Holland Village mall – and along with it comes with the annual star of the show, their Yusheng with Salmon. December 2023 marked the opening of the dog-friendly One Holland Village, and on the third floor you can step through the bustling doors of Sushi Tei, ready to sit friends and families celebrating all occasions.
Already a hit with regulars, the Yusheng Served with Salmon is making a comeback from 15 January to 24 February 2024, making it the perfect way to herald in the much anticipated dragon year. Paired with 16 slices of fresh salmon, you can have in both in-store and via delivery, and toss your way to a year of abundance and wealth. For dine-in customers with UOB cards, you can also score a free upgrade from a medium to large portion- huat ah!
On top of a base of shredded carrots, radish, cucumber and leek, you’ll find an added savoury crunch from their chuka hotate and jellyfish. These little bonuses give it just that extra kick that makes their Yusheng so addictive. To top it all off, their signature Sushi Tei dressing paired with traditional plum sauce adds that bonus prosperity to your Yusheng experience.
Another auspicious dish to have on your table may be the Imperial Dragon Roll (S$17.80), with an unagi dragon head carrying along with it a generous portion of prawn tempura sushi adorned with more eel and fresh avocado slices. Beyond the usual comforting taste of Sushi Tei’s food, I also enjoyed the texture of this dish – the central prawn tempura and tobiko toppings made for a delightful crunch.
For other appetisers, their Hanasaki Ika Tempura (S$9.80) makes for a good sharing dish – squid tempura crisps that are light yet flavourful, and were quickly devoured in a short time. While some may choose to have it as a main, we also tried their Truffle Yuzu Mayonnaise Ramen (S$15.80) and thought it would make an excellent starter for sharing as well. A truffle aroma is gently infused into the cold yuzu broth that is refreshing and citrusy, which combines well with the ramen noodles and prawn bits.
With an extensive menu guaranteeing authentic Japanese options, you can be very sure no one at the table’s going hungry. Usher in the Year of the Dragon with your loved ones in a Japanese-themed fashion at Sushi Tei and reunite over delicious foods that will have you all roaring with glee.
