Come 12 August 2023, national carrier of Turkey, Turkish Airlines, is set to increase the number of weekly departures from Singapore’s Changi Airport to Istanbul from 10 flights to 14 flights. This is in response to an increase in demand for travel post-pandemic.
The first two of these new extra flights will start on 12 August, followed by the third and fourth on 13 September 2023. There will be a total of 9,492 seats available on the Singapore route per week, marking an increase of 27.7 percent for Turkish Airlines.
The World Travel and Tourism Council lists Turkey as one of the top tourist hotspots in the world, with over $13 billion in spending by foreign tourists in 2022. Tourists continue to flock to this country because of its convenient location between Asia and Europe.
Turkish Airlines’ Close Relationship with Singapore
Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines, addressed Singaporean government officials, important stakeholders, tourism representatives, and members of the media during a gala dinner held at Shangri-La Singapore Hotel. Prof. Dr. Bolat revealed that Singapore has held a unique significance for Turkish Airlines since it was the airline’s first Far Eastern destination in 1986.
He went on to add that collaboration between the two countries has been expanding gradually, citing the assistance of Singaporean aid organisations during the earthquake and the increased interest of Singaporean visitors in returning to Turkey as examples. Turkish Airlines is on an expansion plan to extend its presence in the Singapore market and beyond, thanks to Changi Airport’s convenient location and its status as the world’s busiest passenger airport.
Prof. Dr. Bolat also mentioned that passengers flying from Singapore to Istanbul can get a taste of authentic Turkish cuisine or still choose traditional Singaporean dishes on the flight thanks to the airline’s recent upgrade of its in-flight menus, which debuted in May of this year. They can also choose to fly on some of Turkish Airlines’ newest planes, which include the airline’s newest amenities.
The four additional services between Singapore and Istanbul will be operated by the newest Airbus 350-900 aircraft. The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft will continue to be used for the existing 10 flights.
