This June, Arts House Limited (AHL) is hosting a variety of exciting events at both The Arts House (TAH) and Goodman Arts Centre (GAC) over the course of two weekends. From 16 to 17 June 2023, Monstrous Fun! @ The Arts House will hold its annual children’s multilingual literary arts festival.

The festival is complete with bilingual storytelling sessions, interactive tours, and a Magical Monster Hunt, all inspired by children’s literature. You can also expect open studios, interactive workshops, a pop-up artist market and a closing parade exhibiting the dynamic artistic skills of GAC’s tenants and participants at the Goodman Open House @ Goodman Arts Centre on the following Saturday, 24 June.

Back for a second year, Monstrous Fun! @ The Arts House invites families to take a trip into the wonderful worlds of children’s books written by Singaporean authors. Monstrous Fun! is a series of interactive programs that encourages kids to explore the fantastical world of folktales and regional tales. Among these are the Giant Poetry Wall, where kids may try their hand at writing poetry, and The Arts House Story Tour, an interactive tour inside Singapore’s oldest government building. Activities that combine arts and craft with children’s stories include wire sculpture building and mask painting, and participants can look forward to the return of the popular Magical Monster Hunt, full of magical riddles and puzzles to solve.

From multi-lingual author readings and storytelling sessions to dramatic storytelling and role-playing activities and comic drawing workshops, the four national languages of Singapore open up a whole new world of listening to and participating in stories. There’s something for everyone to enjoy at Monstrous Fun! @ The Arts House, with its bewildering lineup of programs designed to pique kids’ interest in literature.

Celebrating the many creative talents housed in the Goodman Arts Centre

The Goodman Arts Centre reopens its doors for a day packed with engaging and enjoyable programming for families spanning multiple art disciplines, including but not limited to music, dance, and visual arts. This year’s Open House has a diverse mix of open studios, workshops, concerts, all-day events, and a pop-up market, all with the goal of showcasing the distinctive talents of artists at Singapore’s largest arts enclave and engaging the community through the arts.

This year, the Open House programming has enlisted the help of Kamini Ramachandran, director of Moonshadow Stories and The Storytelling Centre Ltd, and a GAC tenant for many years, in the role of Guest Artistic Director.

Participation from the audience is encouraged in much of Kamini’s artistic events. Expect various outdoor areas of the enclave to be activated through garden walks, live painting demonstrations, and storytelling events. Visit artists in their studios for up-close and personal viewing and discussion. Participate in a sound bath with musicians and dancers. Participants are encouraged to bring their best works from the day’s workshops and activities to display in a Tenants Parade held in honour of the artists.

The Arts House (TAH) is located at 1 Old Parliament Lane while the Goodman Arts Centre is at 90 Goodman Road.
