First, there are unmanned convenience stores. Then came unmanned supermarkets. Now, it seems even mobile and telco services are going into the same direction.
Local telco giant Singtel has introduced UNBOXED by Singtel, a new retail and experiential pop-up store that is unmanned. Driven by advance technology, this new concept is currently located in Singapore’s Central Business District at 20 Pickering Street.
A peek into the 45-square-metre modular pop-up store reveals a roving live bot powered by facial recognition technology; you won’t feel alone and helpless for sure in the pop-up as the live bot would be able to provide personalised assistance. At the pop-up, customers can try out and buy mobile phones, sign up for mobile plans at self-serve kiosks, get instant SIM card replacements and more.
At any one time, the store can fit up to a maximum of 25 people. Moving forward, Singtel intends to add more services at the store, such as fibre broadband-related services.
Every few months, the pop-up store will move to a new location, which would usually be high-traffic areas such as school campuses and transport hubs.
