Looking for an interesting and affordable weekend activity? Embark on an adventure with Shine (透光), a free photo exhibition with prints featuring the world’s hidden treasures in Cuba, Morocco, Tunisia, Ecuador, Iceland and Faroe Islands.
Shine (透光) will take place from 12 – 26 May, at Mulan Gallery Singapore. Behind the lens is photographer and travel writer Ling Doh Kin, who is also the founding editor of Chinese travel portal Bigfoottraveller.com (大脚印). Having stepped foot on close to 40 countries, photographs of his journeys around the globe capture rich experiences of the people, breathtaking landscapes and flavours of each city.
With the 30 photographs on exhibit, Kin hopes to share the light he sees in each of these destinations. To him, light signifies a source of warmth and comfort, much like the interactions he has had with the local people. His photographs endeavour to convey the vibrant cultures and lively spirit of the kind communities he has engaged with.
The visuals are stirring, and showcase the essence of humanity at its purest. From colourful structures to animated subjects, each print tells a story of its place of origin. Spot the subtle details in the architecture, or classic palettes that reveal the histories of these less explored places and their people.
That’s not all – each scene comes to life with the added feature of smell. Homegrown startup SIX will incorporate their artisanal scents into the gallery, specifically 27°F Biei, a fragrance reminiscent of a Hokkaido winter. All their products are travel-inspired, and a whiff can easily whisk you away to another place and time.
If you’re itching with wanderlust but you’re trapped at your work desk, this may be a good alternative and at zero cost. Show your support for our local artists and soak in the stories that Shine (透光) has to share.
