Ever dreamed of living on Mars? Well, while you can’t realise your dream just yet, the closest thing you can do right now is to visit “NASA: A Human Adventure” – the special exhibition about Mars exploration by National Geographic Channel at the ArtScience Museum. The new exhibition showcases the history behind man and space exploration.
If you have started watching the Mars Docu-drama, do a space walk to Art Science Museum and immerse yourselves into the world of space exploration. The exhibition starts with science fiction authors such as Jules Vern and H.G. Wells telling you about man’s fascination with a trip to the moon.
Throughout the whole exhibition, you can see the exhibits that show the growth of the technology from rocket design to space suits used, culminating with the landing of the moon by the Apollo mission in 1969. That “one small step for man” enables us to have a permanent International Space Station, seamless communication throughout the globe via the satellite system and the confidence to strive for Mars exploration. It has really become a “giant leap for mankind”.
The highlight of the whole exhibition has got to be the G-Force Simulation ride. Strapped into the cabin and you will be brought through a series of simulated events and feel the G-Force acting on your body. The G-force I have experienced is definitely not as high as the real thing, but it gave me a good idea how tough it is to be an astronaut.
Another centrepiece of the exhibition is the replica of the nose section of the Space Shuttle Atlantis. Take a peek at the controls inside the shuttle’s cockpit and check out the seats of the other astronauts just below the cockpit deck. It certainly makes flying in Economy class a luxurious undertaking.
Besides the exhibition, there are other workshops, guided tours and children’s activities that both adults and children will enjoy. Do check out the ArtScience Museum website for more details.
