Location, location, location. It’s the real estate agents’ mantra, and when it comes to travelling, it rings true for me too. Travelling can be physically draining – and even more so if your choice of accommodation is located far out from the city centre. If you are like me and prefer to have everything within arm’s reach, Louis Hotel Munich would be the ideal choice for you for your next trip to the heart of Bavaria.
Check-in
Even though I had arrived at the hotel earlier than the stipulated check-in time, my whole check-in process was fuss-free. The staff at the reception informed that our room would be ready in an hour, but we chose to to keep our luggage with the concierge and head out to explore the city instead.
We returned to the hotel in the evening. Our room – a Courtyard Deluxe room – was spacious and featured a white-walled space with oak floors, earthy colours and a plush queen-sized bed. Design is certainly a key element at Louis Hotel. I was particularly intrigued by the custom-made furniture — the closets are designed like a suitcase. The bathroom, on the other hand, takes its design inspiration from French-style bathrooms.
The Courtyard Deluxe room comes with a French balcony too, overlooking the bustling Viktualienmarkt. Noise was definitely not an issue — with the windows closed, we could hardly hear a thing outside. What’s more, the stalls at the markets closed around 6pm.
All 72 rooms at Louis Hotel are equipped with wi-fi access, flat-screen TVs and Bose speakers. Yes, a Bose speaker to blast the songs on your favourite playlist. As a music lover, the high-quality speaker was a huge plus point for me; it was pure aural indulgence.
I did not expect Louis Hotel to cater any space for fitness facilities. To my surprise, the hotel dedicated an entire floor to a fitness club, consisting of a sauna, gym and rooftop patio. Due to space constraints, the gym does not provide an abundant number of treadmills and weights, but the equipment were more than enough for my routine workout in the morning.
Breakfast
The hotel has a restaurant which serves a breakfast buffet. The restaurant was busy and noisy when we were there. The food selection was quite limited, and perhaps because the restaurant was under-staffed, the food items did not get replenished quickly. The service was also somewhat lacking.
Do note that the breakfast is not included in the room rate. We were told by the staff where the breakfast would be served during check-in and had assumed it was part of the room rate, only to find out during check-out that it was not. We paid €28.50 per person, including tax, for breakfast.
Nearby Attractions
The most obvious feature of Louis Hotel is for sure its location. It is located right in front of the must-visit Viktualienmarkt. a food and market square in Munich, Germany. It honestly could not get any better than that. Being typical Singaporeans, we had a really good time trying out all the different food offered at Virtualienmarkt. Even if you are not a foodie, you will be intrigued by the stalls selling all sorts of items not found back home.
The hotel is also a mere five minutes’ walk from Marienplatz U-Bahn and S-Bahn railway hub. And may I add that Marienplatz is the pulsating shopping belt of Munich?
The Bottom Line
Despite the hiccups encountered, Louis Hotel Munich is overall a pleasant experience. For one, its location is pretty much unbeatable. Just skip the breakfast and head out to Viktualienmarkt instead.
