More than just a morning perk me up, the appreciation of tea has risen steadily over the years. No longer limited to just imported mass market options, we now demand higher quality tea bags, loose teas, and tea leaves sourced from single estates.
In April this year, the 1872 Clipper Tea Co. launched its flagship standalone retail store at ION Orchard, precisely to cater to this rising demand, with a simple aim to make good tea readily available for tea drinkers.
With its interior designed to evoke wanderlust, the new ION store is not just a retail space, but also features a first-of-its-kind in-store tea bar. The bar serves up a wide range of specialty teas and tea-infused pastries and desserts. One novelty is the single-origin cold brew pure Ceylon black tea which is used in the specialty teas. It’s steeped for more than 24 hours and served straight off the tap, creating a sharper mouthfeel, and delivers a cleaner taste profile. Combined with different home-made syrups all made from natural ingredients, customers get to take their pick from a variety of iced tea mocktails and iced milk teas.

Speaking of novelty, the Alpha Dominche Steampunk impressed me the most when I was down at the store. This futuristic machine blends artful craftsmanship with state-of-the-art engineering to produce a quality and consistent brew from cup to cup. From classic flavours to fruit-flavoured teas and caffeine free herbs and blossoms, 1872 Clipper Tea is sure to bring out the tea lover in you by spoiling you with their plethora of choices.
If all these tea sipping is making you a little peckish, fret not and pair your tea with an assortment of pastries including the zesty Lemon Yuzu Eclair, the Matcha’misu, and the indulgent Earl Grey Truffle. Or better still, revel in a high tea set which includes a choice of pastry and a hot or cold tea drink.
On the retail end, the recently launched 1872 Clipper Tea’s Signature Destination range features the most luxurious teas that are hand-selected across 10 key destinations around the world. Each individual selection are single-origin tea leaves indigenous to each of their beautiful gardens, and some notable flavours include the Yunnan Silver Tips, the Milk Oolong, the Gyokuro, the Finest Darjeeling, and the Nuwara Eliya. I thought that providing the information on the region and estate where the tea leaves are sourced from on each individual packaging was a very thoughtful gesture on 1872 Clipper Tea’s part.
