Makansutra Glutton Bay’s rendition of Peking Duck hawker stall may well be the world’s first. And this ain’t no substandard roasted duck from a makeshift stall nor dubious source. You can expect to find dishes as good as what you can get from high end Chinese restaurants at a hawker. Yes, a hawker.
Award-winning chefs Yong Bing Ngen and Yang Lai Fatt from the Majestic Group of restaurants have (fortunately for us) jumped onto the hawker bandwagon. They bring with them executive twists and personal touches to beloved flavours of Chinese restaurant dishes.
The Peking Duck is prepared as elaborately as it would in restaurants — inflated to separate the skin from flesh and allowing the fat to melt away during roasting. And here’s the best part – this comes at a price of S$24, less than half the S$68 price tag at Majestic’s restaurants.
If the Peking platter isn’t sufficient to satisfy your palate, opt for the Fried Duck Rice with Crispy Cereal which looks to be a beautiful mash of golden brown fried rice, eggs and duck.
The chefs are also pretty adventurous when it comes to infusing Western flavours with Chinese ones. Try the stall’s Duck Salad with Truffle Sauce if you’re in for a bold dish. Sounds like a interesting fusion.
If you’re looking for some seafood to complement the duck dishes, their Soft Shell Crab with Thai Mango Salad looks to be a good choice.
Majestic Duck hawker stall’s brand new offerings are available at Makansutra Gluttons Bay from 5 July 2016, 5pm.
