More often than not, Daddy’s contribution to the family often goes unnoticed. So for this Fathers’ Day, why not pamper your Dad with a feast fit for a king at Caffé B?
We recently tried the Father’s Day menu. For starters, we had the Sous Vide Beef Tartare, a combination of diced raw angus beef, tossed in hollandaise sauce and topped with a generous serving of minced egg white. Truth be told, I am no fan of raw beef. I have seen so many versions of beef tartare that went awry, with the beef being not fresh enough. But Caffé B’s version was done right — the beef was well-seasoned and tender.
Having had a cold starter, the warm Capellini Al Gamberetti was welcomed as the next dish. Cooked in white wine and tomato sauce, the pasta is sauteéd with fresh prawns, mushrooms and artichoke. The sauce had a real depth of flavour — it was rich, sweet yet sour. The pasta was light and springy. If this dish were to be on the a la carte menu, I would revisit the restaurant just for this.
After having some carbs, we found ourselves devouring the Pistachio-Crusted Maguro in Guacamole Purée. This is by far the best version of tuna I have ever had. A-star plating aside, the tuna was nicely seared on the outside, moist and soft on the inside. The crunchy pistachio bits added even more flavour to the outer layer and accentuated the crisp.
The last item left to be ticked off the mains is the Rack of Lamb, slow-cooked with a blend plum wine, orange and cranberry juice. The outer layer of the rack was glazed to a perfect brown, leaving the insides pink and the overall texture chewy. A pity the meat did not absorb the wine and juice as much as I’d like it to – the raw taste of meat still overpowered the juices and plum wine. And true to its preparation method (i.e. slow-cooked), this dish took quite a while to be prepared before it was served.
We ended on a sweet note with Caffé B’s house-made White Chocolate Caramel Brownie topped with caramel, white chocolate, mascarpone and cream cheese. While I enjoyed the crispy brownie at the bottommost layer, I found this dessert too heavy and creamy for my liking. Unless you have a really sweet tooth, I’d recommend you to go for something lighter.
Available from 12 to 19 June 2016 for both lunch and dinner, the Father’s Day Menu is offered at S$70++ with a wine pairing option available for an additional price of S$40++.
