Support Pink Dot on 4 June 2016

Pink Dot is here again. This year, the annual event that celebrates the freedom to love will be happening on 4 June at Speaker’s Corner at Hong Lim Park.

If you have gone to Pink Dot in previous years, you would be familiar with the lighting up of Speaker’s Corner in a sea of pink lights, an act that has grown to become synonymous with Pink Dot. However, the organisers have decided to take a different approach this year. Instead of doing the light-up, Pink Dot will be a daytime event this year; participants will be urged to pen down their own messages of love and support on pink placards. The rally will then culminate with the raising of these placards as a united statement for inclusivity.

This year’s Ambassadors are television host/writer Anita Kapoor, comedian, singer/actress Liu Ling Ling, and music producer/film maker ShiGGa Shay. It is without a doubt that these three personalities who have established themselves in their respective circles will help spread Pink Dot’s message of inclusivity to a wider audience.

Complementing the Ambassadors in the lead-up to the event are three campaign videos directed by three Singaporean filmmakers – He Shuming, Koo Chia Meng, and Sun Koh, and executive produced by one of Singapore’s most prominent young filmmaker Boo Junfeng. In line with this year’s theme of Supporting Our Everyday Heroes, these three films will cast the spotlight on three everyday heroes who have gone out of their way to positively affect the lives of their LGBT friends.

Here’s the first campaign video featuring lesbian pastor Pauline of the Free Community Church, who rescued her friend Joan from suicide, and who encourages LGBTQ Christians to remain in church.

Of course, what would be Pink Dot without an eclectic range of performances at the Pink Dot Concert right? This year, expect performances from Pink Dot 2016 Ambassadors ShiGGa Shay and Liu Ling Ling. Making a fabulous return to the Pink Dot Concert stage is Pink Dot 2015 Ambassador Hirzi. Also look forward to pop/soul artist Gareth Fernandez, singer-songwriter Charlie Lim, A Capella group MiCapella, pop/funk/soul artist Dru Chen, and singer Vanessa Fernandez.

Well in case you’re still on the fence as to whether or not to support the Freedom to Love, here are some videos of celebrities lending their support to Pink Dot over the years just to amplify that little whisper in your head: “Love is love.”
