Looking for a feast of local delights but not wanting to break the bank for it? Look no further than J65 at Hotel Jen Tanglin, which offers a value-for-money buffet spread, which lacks in neither variety nor the quality of food. J65 has recently launched its “Local Delights Special” that runs only for the month of April.

You can expect an endless array of local delicacies at J65, with influences from Peranakan, Nyonya and the Straits. Following the huge success of the local Hawker Style buffet at their ‘We Are One Party’, the menu designed by chef Frederick Kho is replete with his signature home-styled recipes. Foodies who cannot get enough of authentic and local cuisine would rejoice upon seeing dishes the likes of Chilli Crab, Salted Egg Yolk Prawns, Ayam Penyet and more.

The daily noodle special menu (only for dinner) at the live stations features different noodle dishes every day, while letting you have your pick of the type of noodle you want. That aside, one gets to choose from their signature Singapore and Penang Laksa, Ipor Horfun and Wanton Mee, all of which are available during both lunch and dinner.

It was a tough fight between Singapore Laksa and Penang Laksa, which deviates from the usual laksa that we have. While it dialed down on the coconut milk flavour in its gravy, the Penang laksa still retained the distinctive spiciness that is central to the taste of laksa. Nonetheless, these two are amongst my favourites at this buffet spread.

What is a local buffet spread without our all-time favourite meat skewers? Be sure to try the glossy-looking satay alongside the peanut sauce and freshly-cooked oyster omelette, which got snapped up within minutes and often had diners queuing for it at the live station.

Also, get ready to indulge in a myriad of sweet treats that include rainbow cake, tiramisu, earl grey swiss rolls and more In line with the theme of Local Delights, diners can get a sweet fix with the locally inspired Potong ice-creams, nyonya kueh and kueh lapis.

Taking the buffet spread to the next level, the Sunday lunch provides patrons with the option of free-flow wine and champagne for an additional S$40++. Apart from that, Sundays Specials feature specialties such as signature lamb shank Biryani, Sambal Seabass, Crispy Pork Belly and Lobster Laksa, all of which are making me salivate at the mere thought of them.
