Having travelled across continents from London to Tokyo to San Francisco, ‘WOMEN: New Portraits’, an exhibition of newly commissioned photographs by world-renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz will open here in Singapore on 29 April.
Held at Tanjong Pagar Railway Station, the free-entry exhibition is a continuation of a 15-year-old project ‘Women’, a project that saw Leibovitz portraying women in her works, after a suggestion by her late partner Susan Sontag. Leibovitz decided to revisit this project and came up with “WOMEN: New Portraits” after Swiss bank UBS approached her on a possible commission.
The new portraits feature women of outstanding achievements, such as artists, musicians, CEOs, politicians, writers and philanthropists. Famous personalities whom Leibovitz has photographed included Adele, Aung San Suu Kyi and MalalaYousafzai. On top of the new works, photographs from the original series, along with some unpublished ones, will also be showcased at the exhibition. Leibovitz’s last exhibition in Singapore was back in 2014, when ‘Annie Leibovitz: A Photographer’s Life 1990-2005’ was held at the ArtScience Museum.
The ‘WOMEN: New Portraits’ exhibition will run from 29 April to 22 May 2016, and be held at Tanjong Pagar Railway Station Main Hall, 30 Keppel Road. For more information, click here.
