Love it or hate it, you are going to hear Singlish on board Jetstar flights departing from Singapore from today onwards.
In an attempt towards more market localisation, Jetstar crew are now trained to give in-flight announcements in Singlish, which will be rolled out on selected flights from April this year. Pilots are also given the go-ahead to make announcements in Singlish, where appropriate.
In fact, cabin crew of different nationalities have been taking compulsory lessons in Singlish, so that they may converse in Singlish with Singapore customers on board flights.
The invasion of Singlish does not end there. Singapore-based customers who visit www.jetstar.com are automatically redirected to a Singlish version of the website.
Jetstar Asia’s Acting Head of Commercial Innovation, Stephan Fule thinks the new move shows the airline’s commitment to constantly improving customers’ travel experience.
“We want customers from Singapore to be able to interact with both our site and staff as they would do with the language that they might be most comfortable with. We are always looking to add value where it matters most and are confident that the Singlish offering will help us to connect with our customers on a deeper level.
We are hoping this is an April Fool’s joke.
