A Cafe in Its Own Element: Elements and Co.

Looking to grab a nice cup of coffee during your lunch break or seeking a place to chill while watching the world go by? Elements & Co. might just be that place for you.

A three minutes’ walk away from Telok Ayer MRT, Elements & Co. at Cecil Street is an easily accessible place for all. The layout of the cafe is made for great people watching – you can sit along the tables, gaze at the bustling office crowds along the streets and enjoy the cosy seats while sipping on your cuppa.

The restaurant has a wide variety of delectable delights – we are talking about an all-day menu, breakfast, drinks and snacks. Prices are also rather reasonable, ranging from S$3 (for snacks) to S$15 (for all day menu items). Another good point about this place is that its menu clearly indicates which foods are gluten-free, vegan or vegetarian. Happy news for the health-conscious.

My first dish was the Aloha Crab Cakes with Papaya-Basil Sauce (S$11.50). If you are a fan of crab cakes, you would like the taste of this unique dish. With crab, fresh coriander, capsicum, basil, papaya topped with chilli lime dressing, this dish did not taste overly “fishy” and the crab was well complemented by the vegetables.

Another dish I tried was the Poached Seabass with Mushroom Risotto (S$14). I often find it difficult to get good risotto dishes, but this tasted delish. For S$14, this was extremely reasonable considering the generous portion of seabass given. The seabass was fresh while the arborio rice was cooked just right, making it a must-try dish.

Even the snacks here are served in generous portions and reasonably priced. Being a huge fan of sweet potato, I got the Sweet Potato Fries (S$2.80). Unlike most other fries which are simply crispy or sometimes even overly soggy, the ones here are not so. Granted, some people prefer crispy fries. But in this case, while the fries are not crispy, they have just the right bite to me. And topped with pepper and mixed herbs, the fries gave me healthy vibes when I was eating them.

If you don’t fancy a full meal, you can just enjoy a nice cup of coffee or other teas available here. I would recommend going for the latte, which is extremely flavourful.

With its accessible location and reasonably priced foods, Elements & Co is one go-to place to chill the afternoon away in the business district area.
