In a showcase carnival held over last weekend at Vivicity Central Court, aptly dubbed S7 Delights, Samsung features the soon-to-be- released S7 and the many exciting, cutting edge applications, services and devices designed around it.
The All New S7
The Samsung S7, is not just a single model of phone but comprises a family of variants to cater to individuals and their diverse tastes. The Samsung Galaxy S7 4G and Edge 4G, have been redesigned and enhanced along four core principles which are, ergonomics, camera usability, software functionality and connectivity. Separately, the S7 edge differs from the S7 4G by having a larger screen – 5.5″ instead of 5.1”.
Together they share many cutting edge features, such as:
Hybrid slot for dual SIM/ single SIM with Micro SD: This allows you to customise your SIM card slot to hold two SIM cards or hold one SIM card and a micro SD card for additional memory — a novel idea that adapts to your lifestyle and needs.
Anderoid 6.0: Voice API (Application Programming Interface), voice search and voice commands.
Improved battery management: DOZE – a intelligent battery management program that can stretch your standby power time to nearly two weeks.
Fingerprint API: Permits only individualised access to your device which is especially important in an age where a phone is a multi-tasking tool.
Improved security: The most significant update patch has been installed on the new S7 to address weaknesses in the Android operating system. Knox security features on the phone allow business and personal functions to exist on the same phone, while providing keeping both functions separate and are thus more secure from security threats. McAfee also comes pre-installed.
Virtual Reality
Samsung’s Virtual Reality offering took up a significant portion of the exhibition space. Gear 360 and Gear VR are companion devices which work with the Galaxy S7 to provide you with an immersive experience you can use to create Virtual Reality content yourself. The Gear VR is a pair of plastic goggles which pairs with your Samsung mobile phone to create an immersive environment conducive to viewing virtual reality content. Gear 360 is in essence an action camera capable of creating virtual reality videos.
Everyday interactivity
Teaming up with BMW, owners of both these coveted items can pair them together. The purpose of syncing your phone via the BMW i Remote app to this sporty beauty is to retrieve important information such as battery level, range, service messages and other details such as whether the car is locked. You will never lose your car with this handy application. By simply tapping on a button, you can activate flashing headlights or sound off the car horn.
If playing virtual reality videos and controlling your vehicle remotely from the S7 isn’t already rethinking what a mobile phone can do, Samsung adds one more feature. Samsung Pay is an in-house developed application that allows credit card payment at all regular credit card terminals at your favourite stores. It allows you to virtually store any chosen credit card you already have with banks like DBS, OCBC and Standard Chartered Bank, and make credit card payments as though your phone is the credit card itself.
Aftersales Concierge Service
Extending its commitment to consumers beyond just selling a great product, Samsung also unveiled an after-sales service programme called Samsung Concierge. At only S$3, this one-time payment allows you to get a new phone from the 12th month, with no need for an upgrade fee. This nominal charge also gets you doorstep repair and personalised assistance for that bespoke treatment, whether you need to transfer data between phones, repair a cracked screen or simply find out how to use a feature. Last but not least, it also incorporates a coverage feature for any damage whereby those who take up this service will get 50% off screen cracks and liquid damages.
The showcase really impressed attendees with how the humble phone has grown with innovative thinkers like Samsung to become a magical box that can integrate itself into so many aspects of one’s life.
