Movie-goers enjoyed a record-breaking box office season in 2015 and it’s pretty clear which films we enjoyed watching. Jurassic World, Furious 7, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Minions, Spectre, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens all hit the lists of the year’s top grossing films. According to reports from cfd trading company IG, the movie industry shows no sign of slowing down with production companies competing to release the next big blockbuster and enjoying healthy financial reward from the box office takings and associated merchandise.

2016 is set to be another exciting year for film filled with more superheroes, sci-fi and animated adventures with many of them being spin-offs, remakes, sequels and adaptations. Here is just a taste of what’s to come:

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has delivered a tale from the original world of Hogwarts. The film takes you right back into the awe-inspiring wizarding world for the first instalment of this new trilogy. Starring Oscar winner and man of the moment Eddie Redmayne, it’s sure to draw in big audiences.

Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice

This hotly anticipated movie brings together three of our favourite superheroes with Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) on the same screen. Sparks will fly … as will the ticket sales.

Finding Dory

The original movie Finding Nemo was hugely successful at the box office in 2003 making nearly $1 billion. On its re-release in 3D in 2012 it was a hit again, grossing $16.7 million on its opening weekend. This sequel has been long-awaited. The major appeal of the original film was the fun family-friendly format mixed with subtle humour that also appealed to older audiences. Expect more of the same formula with the follow up.

Captain America: Civil War

The Captain America series has managed to gross over US$1 billion already from just two films. Four more, including this latest movie, are being scheduled. Producers Marvel Studios and distributors Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures must be confident that these will smash the box office over and over again. This latest offering involves a feud between Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) which leaves the Avengers in turmoil.

The Jungle Book

Jon Favreau directs this new version of The Jungle Book. He has a great track record in delivering top entertainment and producing incredibly mind-blowing imagery. This takes special effects and CGI work to the next level and will have you questioning what is real or not. All that does not guarantee box office success but he has cleverly put together a recipe for a superbly emotional remake of this classic movie.

X-Men: Apocalypse

This is the eighth film in the mega movie franchise which has been very successful and profitable at the box office. The last instalment X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) was the highest grossing film in the franchise to date. All of the X-Men films have delivered time and time again. Much of their success is due to maintaining the original cast with constantly evolving characters and bringing in more cunning and evil baddies. If it follows the trend of the previous films, it is bound to be near the top of the box office charts.
