A Scoop of Italy and a Slice of France at Churn Creamery

Ever dreamt about tasting gelato from Italy, or savouring exquisite desserts from France? Now, there is no longer any need to travel to Europe just for these, because they can be found right in the heart of Singapore at Churn Creamery.

Churn Creamery is a new dessert parlour founded by three passionate pastry professionals who aspire to create quality desserts and offer them at an affordable price. The trio were inspired after a trip to Italy and decided to introduce quality gelato to the people of Singapore. Their belief in creating consistently excellent desserts remains unchanged and shines through the gelato and desserts offered in their parlour.

Churn Creamery prides itself on offering gelato made from the highest-grade ingredients. The flavours change regularly, not only according to festive seasons, but also based on seasonal ingredients. This means you will not be getting any pistachio gelato in a season when pistachios are of poorer quality, but at least, you can be assured of the quality of the ingredients.

There are a variety of flavours offered at Churn Creamery. You can expect classic flavours such as Cookies and Cream, Vanilla, Earl Grey and Mint Stracciatella, but do try their more unique creations such as Banana Nutella, Baileys Milo and Marron. I found Marron, a gelato made from candied chestnuts, to be a particularly nostalgic flavour. It transported me back to the days where I had roamed the streets of Italy, licking Marron-flavoured gelato, and the time when I toured the streets of France savouring crepes slathered with Marron filling. It was wonderful to be able to find this taste in Singapore again.

If you are a chocolate lover, you will find delight in their best selling flavour Valrhona Manjari, a gelato made from 60% dark chocolate. This gelato is a crowd pleaser as it achieved a great balance of sweet and bitter. I also loved the Orange Gingerbread flavour that is rich with gingerbread spices and yet refreshing due to the contrasted flavour from the orange peel. Unfortunately, this was a flavour only for the Christmas season. However, you can look forward to their exciting new Chinese New Year flavours – Mandarin Orange, Pineapple and Crumble, and Peach and Mango.

What makes Churn Creamery stand out would be that customers have the option of filling their ice cream cones with molten chocolate from a constantly flowing fountain (additional S$1 per cone). For those watching their figures, you’ll be pleased to know that these gelatos are created mostly with milk instead of cream, thus making this treat a guilt-free one.

Besides gelato, Churn Creamery also serves up a wide array of delectable desserts that marries the idea of a French dessert and an Italian gelato perfectly. Don’t miss their gelato cakes (S$7.50 – S$8.90), where traditional French and Italian desserts such as a Tiramisu or Mont Blanc take on a new ice cream twist.

Churn Creamery also has other desserts on their menu such as the all-time-favourite waffles and signature sticky date pudding. I particularly enjoyed their French Profiteroles – your choice of gelato sandwiched between light puff pastry and drizzled with chocolate sauce (S$9.80 with single scoop premium gelato). The combination was enjoyable to its very last bite.

If you’re in the area of Tanjong Pagar, don’t hesitate to head down to Churn Creamery for a try. There’s always room for dessert.
