For health-conscious diners, Shirokiya is a Japanese restaurant not to be missed. It is touted as a healthy Japanese dining restaurant, which uses ingredients such as collagen that is beneficial for your skin and hair, and the likes.
Bishoku-Ryouri is one of the various menus offered by the restaurant, which aims to enhance your health and beauty with food. The menu includes Bishoku Nabe, their special hot pot that is imbued with collagen, as well as Homemade Tofu. There is collagen even in some of the ramen noodle soup on the menu. While you may be concerned that the healthy cuisine served would be lacking in flavour, taste is certainly not compromised in the food served.
The broiled salmon sushi topped with salmon roe was an immediate hit with us as it whetted our appetites before the mains came. The slices of broiled salmon are of the right thickness and had this slightly grilled flavour to it. It was well complemented by the chewy texture of the salmon roe, which was a gastronomically divine combination in one’s mouth, especially for salmon-lovers. This is certainly one dish that would see diners returning to the restaurant for.
One of the mains ordered was the stir-fried noodles omelette, which would remind you of teppanyaki food. Not in the least overpowered by the sweet sauces drizzled upon it, the generous portion of well-seasoned noodles and pork wrapped within the omelette, was nothing short of tantalising. Even so, the lightly yet well-seasoned noodles did not steal the spotlight from the soft and fluffy texture of the egg. To say the least, the entire omelette was impeccably done. There was also no heavy-handed use of seasoning for this dish, unlike some omelette dishes served at other eateries. So egg-lovers, this dish is one you got to try at Shirokiya!
Beer-lovers on the lookout for the next novel kind of beer to try must not give this Kirin Ichiban Frozen beer a miss. While it comes in a smaller glass, as compared to the average glass size served at bars and restaurants, it was certainly not a disappointment. The foamy and slushy part atop the glass of draught beer keeps the beer cold longer. By virtue of that, it also enhances the light malty and smooth texture of the light-bodied beer, which goes down well particularly with the ladies. There are even flavours such as Mango, Orange and Calpis to cater to disparate palates.
This restaurant has an intimate setting, which is ideal for group gatherings over delectable and yet healthy Japanese food fare. It also has more exclusive areas compartmentalised in the restaurant for diners who want a more private setting. Despite the Friday crowd, service was fast and efficient, with little delays in the taking of orders and serving of food. However, it is advisable to make reservations in advance, a queue started to form outside the restaurant around 7pm onwards.
