Recently, Okinawa unveiled a new marketing campaign called “Okinawa: The Secret is Out” to showcase the Japanese prefecture. What’s interesting about this series is that the campaign is featured as a six-episode mini series, rather than one video typically seen in other campaigns.
In the mini series, we see six people from different parts of the world – America, France, Singapore, Germany, Thailand and China – being invited to experience Okinawa, a group of sub-tropical islands in the south of Japan. Now, what do these six people have in common?
Each of them has a secret and their trip to Okinawa helped them to be themselves and come to terms with their own secret.
America – Julie’s Secret
In the first video, Julie, a woman from Arkansas, brings her 65-year-old father to Okinawa. This is the first time her father has gone out of the US. While Julie hopes the trip will let her father experience the beauty of another country, she has another reason for the trip. She is hoping that the wonders of Okinawa will make it easier for her to tell her secret to her father. So, what exactly is Julie’s secret?
Germany – Mara’s Secret
This video revolves around Mara from Berlin. She has been keeping a secret from her boyfriend since they met. Both of them are expecting a baby together and months before their baby arrives, Mara takes her boyfriend to Okinawa with the intention of telling him what truly happened the night they met.
Singapore – Priscilla’s Secret
Priscilla from Singapore recently made a life-changing decision. She has left her comfortable job in marketing to pursue music, something typically uncommon in her country. In the video, Priscilla takes her parents on a trip to Okinawa and along the way, strengthens the family bond. Will she bring herself to tell her parents her secret?
In the video on Priscilla, you’ll see some of these beautiful places in Okinawa that she visited:
Makishi Market
A colourful world for the senses, Makishi Market in Naha boasts endless culinary temptations from tropical seafood to pork to island vegetables. You can even head up to the second level where there are restaurants serving authentic Japanese cuisine.
Okinawa World
Steeped in history, culture and nature, Okinawa World is the foremost theme park in the Japanese prefecture. The major highlights include Gyokusendo, a 5km-long limestone cave formed 300,000 years ago, as well as a scenic village featuring Okinawa’s local crafts such as glass blowing and pottery.
