Every December, there is only one thing that I look forward to – Christmas. With every Christmas season, I get excited over the delectable and sumptuous feasts ready for eating. As I began my hunt for good food, I found out that Sunrise Bistro and Bar is one of the restaurants that have started to whip up these delights.
Helmed by Chef Vincent Teng, with a vast 22-year experience working with restaurants like My Dining Room and Skyve as well as having cooked for a slate of MediaCorp artistes and politicians, it was no surprise that the food served was truly of top quality.
This Christmas, Sunrise Bistro and Bar is introducing its Sumptuous Festive Meal consisting of a Chilled Assorted Seafood Platter, Meat Platter and Desserts for only S$99++. This is fairly reasonable, considering how the meal is large enough to be shared between two to two persons.
For starters, we had the Seafood Platter. This dish comprises Freshly Shucked Australian Coffin Bay Oysters, which are plump, juicy and succulent. Cooked with an assortment of vegetables, the White Wine Blanched Live Prawns, Australian Blue Mussels and Venus Clams leaves you with a flavourful and sweet note. There is even something out there for all Japanese fans – tasty and fresh slices of Salmon Sashimi.
What is great about Sunrise Bistro and Bar is its novelty value – all its sauces are homemade. The platter is served with condiments that are specially created by Chef Vincent himself. These include Japanese Mignonette with Japanese Brown Rice Vinegar and Thai Style Roasted Tomato Dip, which present an interesting flavour to the seafood. After experimenting with the different sauces, I was left wanting more.
Next, the meat platter stars a Whole Red Snapper with Cereal Crust, BBQ Black Angus Beef Ribs and Crispy Pork Belly with Five Spice Salt. I especially enjoyed the cereal crust on the fish as it contrasted extremely well with the soft and velvety texture of the red snapper. The glorious black angus beef ribs were also charred to perfection with just the right amount of barbeque sauce. Finally, the pork belly was sufficiently crispy and tasted extremely delicious with the salt coated onto the meat. Being a huge meat lover, this platter truly embodied the meaning of bliss for me.
That was not all. The platter even comes with a huge array of accompaniments such as Pumpkin and Potato Mash, Seasonal Sautéed Vegetables and French Fries in Truffle Oil. There was nothing spectacular about the vegetables and french fries, but the Pumpkin and Potato Mash was a huge hit for me. Soft and creamy, the mash was of perfect texture and complemented the meaty dishes perfectly.
To go with the meats, Chef Vincent also prepared a variety of sauces such as his Homemade Apple and Smoked Tomato Ketchup, Sweet Chilli and Pineapple Salsa and Honey Mustard Sauce. At Sunrise Bistro and Bar, you will definitely be spoilt for choice when it comes to sauces to complement your meats with.
To end off our gourmet experience, the dessert platter served had strawberries, bananas, cookies, panettone and marshmallows waiting to be dipped into the melted warm white chocolate and salted egg yolk custard fondue. This was definitely a first for me – Salted Egg Yolk and White Chocolate Fondue? I have never tried or even heard of such a fondue flavour. However, to my surprise, it tasted great! I felt like I was eating a liu sha bao, but only dessert-style.
Nestled within Big Splash, East Coast, Sunrise Bistro and Bar is indeed a gem waiting to be discovered. Throughout the meal, I found myself looking forward to every dish. Indeed, Chef Vincent prepares each dish intricately and adds his own contemporary twist to them. This Sumptuous Festive Platter is only being available from 19 December 2015 to 1 January 2016.
