Malaysian Urban Retreat Festival, or better known as MURFEST, is Malaysia’s largest health and wellness event – three days of fun-filled and exciting workshops for all fitness junkies to explore. Being a health nut myself, I jumped at the opportunity to go to the festival and found myself intrigued with the myriad of workshop choices available.
Celebrating the best of wellness, yoga, dance and music, MURFEST aims to inspire Malaysians to live a balanced lifestyle and to rejuvenate. From zumba workshops to aqua yoga classes, there is something for everyone who’s looking to find a space for themselves and ultimately, have fun.
I found myself stumbling into a yoga class teaching about the true essence of yoga and was pleasantly surprised at the knowledge I gained from just a short 1.5-hour session. The instructor, Aman Merican, walked us through the simple principles and process of yoga and what yoga truly means. I picked up a few key elements and practices which I find valuable in my own practice – indeed an eye-opening experience for anybody willing to learn.
This year, MURFEST 2015 was held at The Pullman Hotel Bangsar and this area is not known to have much to do unless you make your way out of the premise. However, MURFEST got us covered by hosting a large variety of vendors ranging from yoga mats, work out attires to healthy, organic food. These vendors showed us that being healthy doesn’t mean you have to be boring – everything was so colourful, bright and happy, it’s hard to resist!
The thing I love most about being at MURFEST 2015 was the freedom everyone felt to express. You can see people posing in their best yoga poses around the building and even expressing themselves through dance and music. The free-spirited and hippie vibe was enough to keep you relaxed and blissfully contented; to be surrounded by like-minded folks is always a great experience.
Being at MURFEST 2015 was a wonderful experience for me. I got to try classes I normally wouldn’t have tried elsewhere and learned a lot of new things, but best of all, I took home a new-found respect for healthy living and found myself wanting to maintain this balanced and harmonious lifestyle.
If you have never tried any new form of work out other than your treadmill, I encourage you to check out MURFEST next year for an experience you will never forget. It is the best place to learn new hobbies and exercises, taught by the best in the industry and better yet, you get to make new friends who will guide you through the process.
