Societe Generale Singapore Cricket Club (SCC) is hosting the 68th Edition of world famous International Rugby 7s tournament which kicks off this weekend and is taking place from 30 October to 1 November 2015 at the Padang in Singapore. This year’s tournament will see a total of 24 teams and several national development teams which are represented by potential players we might see in April 2016 World Rugby Singapore 7s.

International rugby powerhouses, South Africa, England and France, which are gearing up for the upcoming World Rugby Seven Series, as well as retuning teams Casuarina Cougars, Swedish Vikings, East Arnhem and the 2014 defending champions Borneo Eagles (Malaysia) will be participating in the tournament. They will be joined by home team, SCC and Singapore National Team, which has been training hard for the event and is prepared to pit their skills against the international team for the highly coveted Albitt Cup title.

Defending champions Borneo Eagles will be facing stiff competition against South Africa, represented by SA Sevens Academy, which is back in the game after a three-year absence. Several squads such as PNG Interoil Rais from Papua New Guinea and Sri Lankan Lions from Sri Lanka, will be making their maiden appearance in this year’s tournament.

Singapore is becoming a sports hub in Asia and South East Asia, hosting not only the World Rugby Sevens Series in 2016, but also home-grown events like the SCC 7s. Arnauld Lhoste, Head of Global Markets Sales, Societe Generale, Southeast Asia, said he hopes that hosting such events will spur the growth of rugby in Singapore and promote Singapore as a long-term partner for international rugby events. SCC 7s is one of the oldest rugby tournaments invitational team sports events, especially in Singapore, and has a heritage as the ‘Friendly 7s’.
