One step into the Clarks store at Ion, and your nose registers an instinctive, not necessarily overwhelming, smell of leather that can only mean one thing – shoes.
The new Clarks store at Ion Orchard is unlike any of its outlets. It is a C7+ concept store, the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. Farmhouse tables and benches made from reclaimed wood are used to display the shoes, creating a homely feeling. The men’s table is accompanied by ‘lab’ stools to display the shoes.
Last week, Clarks hosted a party to celebrate 190th anniversary in conjunction with the store opening at the store itself, with guests and members of the media in attendance.
In true British fashion, Clarks served up shepherd’s pie and had a retro dance performance segment for the guests. Local artist Grace Ciao was also on site to finish the water colour artwork she did in commemoration of Clarks’ 190th anniversary. There was also an Instagram flatlay contest for the guests with three lucky winners walking away with a S$200 voucher.
As part of the celebrations, Clarks also launched Clarks Unboxed, a new digital concept that provides an interactive display of the 190 years of the Clarks’ history. It includes 12 chapters to tell the story about Clarks’ journey to become one of the world’s leading global shoe brand today.
This A/W15 season, the Clarks Narrative collection reminds us of Clarks’ rich culture while simultaneously bringing us up to speed with the the latest footwear fashion. This is all part of reinterpretation, as they give the classics an unexpected twist. Bold hues and texture predominates the collection, which ranges from on-trend “mantailoring” to “athleisure” styles. Highlights include Image Dazzle, a strappy, square-toe sandal available in gleaming white leather, grenadine or spotted pony hair.
If Image Dazzle seems too flashy, perhaps the understated feel Busby Fayre would appeal more the minimalists. The retro-loving and quirky can seek comfort in Gabriel Candy, with its funky 70s-inspired design which comes in a mix of toffee and navy colour, and with a grey strap.
Intricate details and finishing define the mens’ shoes of this season, with Arton Walk walking the talk with craft stitching, lace stays and contrast colour laces. The men can also expect well-crafted and comfortable shoes like the Gabwell Step (pictured above).
There might be a change in the season’s offerings, but one thing’s for sure: Clarks’ shoes still delivers on their “Comfort + Style” philosophy. More often than not, you will find your chosen pair of Clarks shoes to have comfortable lining to cushion your feet for the distance. It also caters to the wide feet audience who find it difficult to find trendy, yet comfortable shoes to wear. With so many shoes to choose from, you can go home with a pair of shoes that fits even better than the house of your dreams.
