Rejoice, Star Wars fans! Royal Selangor, the world’s largest pewter maker, has collaborated with The Walt Disney Company SEA for a one-of-a-kind collection to commemorate one of the world’s most successful pop culture phenomenon, Star Wars. Royal Selangor immortalises some of the all-time favorite Star Wars characters and some classic scenes from the movie in pewter, just in time before the latest instalment hits the theatres later this year.
Though recreating Star Wars characters in pewter may seem daunting, Royal Selangor’s sculptors and designers made sure they are able to transform each pewter into a worthy collectible for all Star Wars aficionados. They referenced Lucasfilm-approved reproduction arts, film screenshots and on-set photos before each figurine is sculpted.
The collection include limited edition 8-inch figurines of Darth Vader (RM 1060), Han Solo (RM 1060) and Princess Leia (RM 1060), as well as 4-inch figurines of Yoda (RM 318), the Stormtrooper (RM 371) and Boba Fett (RM 371). There are also Darth Vader and C-3PO mugs, Stormtrooper (RM 402.80) and Boba Fett tumblers (RM 212), a Death Star trinket box (RM 371), a Millenium Falcon and snowspeeder-shaped 16 GB USB (RM 238.50). Those who like to wear Star Wars collectibles on them will be delighted to find the cufflinks of the Galactic Empire and Rebel Alliance (RM 201.40 each), all handcrafted from pewter.
The highlight of the collection is a limited edition diorama of a classic scene from “Return of the Jedi”, capturing the monstrous Rancor in his pit attacking Luke Skywalker. Apparently, the backdrop of the diorama is an original artist interpretation, because in the movie, Luke battled Rancor in dim surroundings, leaving few details that can be replicated. The whole diorama is priced at RM 3180.
Royal Selangor is set to distribute the Star Wars-themed pewter merchandise and accessories over the next three years, after receiving the rights to distribute the collection in several countries, including Singapore, Hong Kong, Brunei, Australia, UK and China.
