Have you always wanted to create a sushi customised to your unique taste? Now you can, with Maki-san. When Maki-san opened its first outlet in 2012 at The Cathay on our sunny little island, it brought endless possibilities to a sushi meal. Everything can be customised – from the wrap to the fillings to toppings and sauces. You can mix and match any of the 80 exciting toppings to create your very own sushi masterpiece. With successful outlet openings at The Cathay and The Arcade, Makisan has finally landed in the east side of Singapore at Katong I12.
I remember being excited about Maki-san when it first opened at The Cathay in 2012. It used to be my everyday dinner staple back when I was working in the same building. My colleagues and I would have Maki-san every day, and each day with a different combination. It was not so packed then.
Now whenever we head to the outlet at The Cathay, the waiting time can go up to 30 minutes. That is how popular Maki-san has become now. We begged them to open another outlet, and one and a half years later we finally got our wish.
Maki-san opened at The Arcade in Raffles Place in 2014. I was elated and grabbed all my colleagues for Maki-san takeaways. With its outlet situated in the Central Business District, the health-conscious office goers can now have a say in what goes into their sushi. Brightly lit and popping with vibrant colours, it stands out from most of the other shops at The Arcade. Office workers can even use the intricately designed sushi boxes to keep their stationery and add a dash of colour to their desks.
With Maki-san’s fast growing pool of customers, it is without a doubt that opening a third outlet would soon be on the tables. As we all know, three is a party! Rolling into Maki-san’s third anniversary is their third outlet opening at Katong I12. Fans of the store can now have their sushi fix in the heartlands.
I managed to have a chat with the founder of Maki-san, Omar. He seemed to remember me from Maki-san’s early days at The Cathay. He spoke about looking forward to opening another outlet, probably in the west or central area. Fans of Maki-san will certainly be happy with this piece of news. I’m certainly one of those who will be happy to find more Maki-san outlets on the island.
