6 Highlights of Singapore Night Festival 2015

Into its eighth year, the Singapore Night Festival is here again to light up the Bras Basah–Bugis precinct for the next two weekends. As with most events this year where we celebrate the nation’s golden jubilee, the Singapore Night Festival is also pulling out all stops with a spectacular line-up of world-class entertainment presented by Singaporeans, foreign artists and performers with the theme of “Glitz and Glamour”.

There will be over 100 performances and light art installations by more than 30 local acts. We help you shortlist some of the must-sees of this year’s festival:

1. THE ANOOKI CELEBRATE SINGAPORE, Façade of National Museum

THE ANOOKI CELEBRATE SINGAPORE – Catch the Inuits in action

The Anookit Celebrate Singapore is an anchor piece for diverse light art installations under Night Lights. Keep a lookout for the appearance of the world’s smallest and beloved Inuits – Anoo and Nooki – in a specially-created façade projection by French graphic designers David Passegand and Moetu Batlle for the festival and Singapore’s Golden Jubilee. Be amused by the characters running amok all over the façade of the National Museum, and enthralling audiences into dancing and singing along with their captivating tunes.

When: 7:30pm to 2:00am, 21, 22, 28 and 29 August; 7:30pm to 11:00pm, 23 to 27 August

2. THE GARDEN OF FIRE & LIGHT, Front Lawn of Singapore Art Museum

Fire by Starlight Alchemy

The Garden of Fire & Light – Starlight Alchemy

Against the dramatic façade of the Singapore Art Museum, Starlight Alchemy combines their distinct storytelling voice and multi-disciplinary flow arts style to present an exciting new work in a simple tale of two elemental beings that discover each other. Using a variety of large aerial custom-made fire props and LED technology, Singapore’s premier fire and light performance artist group will take the audience through a mesmerising and heart-pumping journey filled with thrills, stunts and fire tricks.

When: 8:00 pm – Shock of Recognition, 21 and 22 August; 9:30 pm – Another World, 21 and 22 August; 11:00 pm – Alchemy, 21 and 22 August

3. GARDEN OF ANGELS – Front Lawn, National Museum

International music theatre company, Theater Tol, will bring to life a surreal world by dancers, musicians and a spectacular aerial carousel of angels, culminating in a visual spectacle for the Bras Basah/Bugis Precinct. Festival-goers can join in their revelry as they parade from Armenian Street to the National Museum on 28 and 29 August at 8 pm. Celebrate and rejoice with an aerial spectacle of dazzling angels, singers and dancers!

When:  9:00 pm and 11:00 pm, 28 and 29 August (25-minute show)

4. YOUR NIGHT @ THE MUSEUM by Singapore Pinacotheque de Paris

Unravel the mystery of Cleopatra — femme fatale or political genius? Discover the secrets of Fort Canning through quizzes, walks and a treasure hunt. Adding to the party vibe are sleep-over options and special themed menus.

When: 7:00 pm to 12 midnight, 21, 22, 28 and 29 August

5. THE SUBSTATION’S EXTRA EXTRA SPECIAL FILM SCREENING – The Substation Theatre

Catch popular local productions such as Forever Fever and The Teenage Textbook Movie with comedians Sharul Channa and Becca D’Bus!

When: 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm, Aug 21, 22, 28 and 29 August

6. KUMAR’S CABARET — QUEEN OF GLAMOUR – House of Glamour (Cathay Green)

Brace yourselves for Kumar as he sizzles up the stage with stand-up comedy and a glitzy cabaret show. For 18 years & above. This is a ticketed show
