Scoot’s Garang in the Air Party

0

In celebration of SG50, Scoot took to the sky like no other with a party at 40,000 feet. Partying on the new 787 Dreamliner plane, together with a great bunch of celebrities like Irene Ang from FLY entertainment, as Chief of Entertainment on board, along with other celebrities such as Tosh Zang, Joshua Tan, Wong Weiliang, Maxi Lim, Rebecca Tan, Patricia Mok, Hirzi Zulkiflie and Munah Bagharib.

To get the party started, Benjamin Kheng and Jill-Marie Thomas lef the crowd with national day songs, and Singapore’s most famous drag queen Kumar rolled in with brilliant stand-up comedy jokes.

This was one of the best events and flight I have ever taken, in all my years of flying. It was like a miniature national day celebration and concert, but squeezing a bunch of people in one cabin, as if it was on a private jet plane.

We had endless fun, singing songs, playing games and having awesome light meals, provided by Scoot. The FLY Entertainment team, did a brilliant job of hyping up the crowd and I’ve never experienced such a joyful and noisy event on the plane.

I was really impressed with how the “Garang in the Air” party could bring a bunch of strangers together and make them bond within a short period of time. It reminded me of camping with school mates during my polytechnic days.  This party lived up to its name, making us guests super “garang” (Singlish for ‘daring’) on the plane – in a good way – doing things we would usually not do on standard flights.

During the event, the weather was not in our favour. Each time there was an episode of turbulence, everyone would make “wooing” sounds as if we were on a rollarcoaster ride. That was really funny to me, though.

The Garang goody bag, came with red and white clappers, a whistle and, let’s not forget, the national day flag. During each segment, we made good use of the items given to us. I’ve never felt so patriotic on a plane before. I’ve only attended the National Day parade a few times, and this felt like a pre-party before the actual day.

As it was a Garang party, the Scoot crew added in Singapore slang in each announcement — which would not have been a common call for them. The best part was seeing the Chief Executive Officer of Scoot, Campbell Wilson being so involved in the entire party.

And of course, we had to get selfie queen Patricia Mok, to take the biggest wefie picture on the plane. This was a once-in-a lifetime experience I would never forget. I am glad I got to experience SG50 with Scoot Crew and the FLY entertainment team.

Happy 50th Birthday, Singapore.
