After unveiling how their new Dreamliner’s seat configuration would look like earlier this year, KLM is teasing us one more time. The Dutch airline will not fly their five new aircrafts until October, but they may have sparked the travelling buzz yet again.
KLM has revealed the sharp and cool Dutch-inspired interiors of the new 787-9 Dreamliner cabin, which will run routes to Bahrain and Abu Dhabi later this year. Serving these middle east routes does not mean that the experience should be high-gloss branding to the likes of the Gulf carriers. KLM offers a crisp European understated elegance which outlines its brand design, visible on its 747 and 777 aircraft, and portrayed by leading Dutch designer Hella Jongerius.
Among the most important features of the Boeing 787-9 is the newly introduced World Business Class (WBC) seats, which recline flat and have direct access to the aisle. There is also the option of a dual-screen in-flight entertainment experience, which allows passengers to play games or chat using the handset while watching a film.
Flying Economy Class? You are granted seats that recline 40% further. I fly KLM frequently on their Denpasar-Amsterdam route via Singapore and always appreciate their state-of-the-art Inflight Entertainment system. On their Dreamliners, all the good stuff will be upgraded to 11-inch HD screen featuring films, games, and the SeatChat feature, which allows passengers to communicate with others who may not be seated nearby. Wi-fi will be available for all passengers who want to be online during their flight. Finally, the interiors in WBC, Economy Comfort and Economy Class create a highly hospitable setting on board.
With this aircraft arrival, KLM is adding a quieter and more fuel-efficient aircraft to its fleet. The Boeing 787-9 is equipped with highly fuel-efficient engines, which will reduce CO2 emissions by at least 20%. The design of the interior of the aircraft creates a typically KLM mood, layout and character on board the Boeing 787-9.
The point of departure for the cabin interior was to maximize comfort and privacy for passengers, while maintaining KLM’s brand values. Larger windows, a higher cabin pressure and special LED-lighting further enhance the unique flight experience. This is all aimed at ensuring KLM passengers arrive fitter and more rested at their destinations.
“The Boeing 787-9 enables KLM to offer passengers even more comfort and privacy,” KLM President and CEO, Pieter Elbers, said. “KLM has chosen to add specific improvements to this special aircraft, which makse it unique among other 787s. All these details add up to ensure our passengers can experience a new way to fly.”
