Suntec City’s newest Sky Garden would soon be greeting you with seven new Japanese concept restaurants – Eat at Seven. The first of the seven to open up in this new horizon is ENBU.
The restaurant name ENBU also means “Dance to Flame”. True to its name, the restaurant uses a traditional method of cooking called warayaki izakaya to prepare their dishes. For people who are not familiar with the term, it is basically grilling food over charcoal with straws, providing a unique smoky fragrance that sets the food apart from typical grilled food.
It doesn’t just end there. Chef Tatsunori Yara, head chef of ENBU adds a zest to your traditional Japanese food by getting creative in his presentation. You would be surprised at the concept of some dishes. There was definitely some inspiration taken off from different parts of the world when they were coming out with the menu.
ENBU is probably one of the first Japanese restaurants in Singapore that has an alfresco area. It gives a more relaxing vibe where you can enjoy your unique fare with alcohol. Though I had some of perplexity of the dishes presented, there were some dishes I really loved!
One of the dishes I loved was the Taco Salad (S$15), though you may wonder what this is doing in a Japanese restaurant. The presentation of the dish was superb. The ingredients were all layered, packed into the glass jar and then decanted in front of you onto the taco chip. It provided a stunning visual and a great teaser to opening up your appetite.
Instead of Bonito flakes, the Katsuo Warayaki (S$16) provides you with the Bonito Fish instead. True to the style of cooking, this was prepared over charcoal with straws. Wrapping with aluminum foil helps the fish to be served warm but yet remain raw at the same time. I would recommend this dish to people who prefer something less savoury.
The Oyster and Spinach Teppanyaki with Uni Sauce (S$15) felt like a dish inspired by the Singaporean’s love for oyster omelette. Nevertheless, it was flavorful. The spinach helped to play down the taste, creating a balance. It was a perfect combination. I would order it again when I am back.
The Sashimi Moriawase (S$120), a sashimi platter, was the highlight of the day. Expect nothing but freshness as you savour all of it. This serving serves four, but you could always opt for the serving portion for two which would cost you about S$60.
A few other concepts that Eat at Seven would be launching are Megumi, NikuNoHi and Nigrio café. Sashimi lovers would be interested to check out Megumi. While meat lovers like me would be looking forward to a restaurant like NikuNohi. For dare devils, Nigiro would be great as it specializes in Japanese-Italian cuisines. Eat at Seven certainly has everyone’s taste buds covered.
