5 Reasons Why I Love Apple Watch and Pebble Time Watch

This year, two companies are going to compete against each other in this smart watch industry. Although smart watches have already been in the market for some time, I rank these two companies as the top two among all. I own their latest smart watches and I have to say, I love them. These two companies are Apple and Pebble Technology.

Apple Watch was born after the presentation by Apple’s CEO Tim Cook back in September 2014. With lots of mixed reviews out there before release, many are wondering how far Apple can drive this smart watch industry. The expectations for Apple remain high because of the Cupertino-based technology company’s astonishing success in their mobility products.

As for Pebble Technology, the company did it with a massive US$20.3 million funding through Kickstarter early this year. Back in 2012, Pebble Technology raised up to US$10.3 million. With near 78,000 backers this year, people trusted Pebble Technology ever since their last smart watch launch in 2013. It was sold out within five days back then. Trust is important and now, Pebble Technology is ready with their latest product, Pebble Time.

Here are my five reasons for loving Apple Watch and Pebble Time.

Apple Watch (Retail price: From S$518)

apple watch1. A large and growing App Store

As Apple has the largest app store in the globe, I can definitely foresee their potential growth in Watch App Store. Currently, you will find many familiar Watch apps which you already had in your iPhone like Channel NewsAsia, SG NextBus, WeatherLah and Evernote.

2. More than just a retina display screen

Beautifully crafted with glass bending on the edges, the Apple Watch display comes in 38mm (1.5″) and 42mm (1.7″). The screen colours are sharp with vibrant colours. It also has a pressure sensitive function called Force Touch, adding an extra capability for the smart watch.

3. Seamless integration with iOS devices

Since it is designed by Apple, it works only in iOS devices. With the Watch app in iOS 8.3 update, interacting with the smart watch is easy.

4. Lots of accessories ahead

Already selling in the Apple retail stores, you can easily find accessories such as straps and cases for this smart watch to suit your fashion and mood.

5. A great personal assistant

My personal favourite is the modular watch face on which I can see my calendar events and reminders all in a glance. The watch also monitors my health by discreetly measuring my heart beats and my daily activities. Don’t worry about missing notifications because a simple hepatic touch will keep you posted.

Pebble Time (Retail price: US$199)

1. Awesome battery life

With just one full charge, the Pebble Time can last up to six days even with the screen perpetually on. This is due to the colour e-paper display which is designed to consume less power and great visibility under the bright sun.

2. Easy to use

Since Pebble Time is not a touchscreen device, there are no gestures. Just four tactile buttons are used to interact with the easy-to-use user interface called the Timeline.

3. Compatible with iOS and Android devices

Like the Pebble Watch, Pebble Time is designed to integrate with iOS and Android devices. All you need is the Pebble Time app installed in your smart phone and pair it using Bluetooth technology.

4. Light weight

Weighing just 42.5 grams including the silicone straps, the Pebble Time feels extremely light on the wrist.

5. Competitive pricing with great functions and ergonomic profile

With the 2.5D glass display, 9.5mm thin chassis and built-in microphone, the price of Pebble Time is just US$199. This makes the Pebble Time a good deal compared to other smart watches out there.

With Swatch, Casio and Tag Heuer going to release their own smart watches soon, this wearable market is going to be heating up ahead. Only time will tell who’s going to be the leader in this industry.
