Ö COMPTOIR, previously known as LE COMPTOIR, has just turned one year old. In celebration of its first anniversary, our favourite crêpe and cider bar threw a party on 23 May, with free flow rosé all night long, live DJs, photobooth, and us being serenaded by a saxophonist to boot!
The year-old Ö COMPTOIR has many things to be proud of. Nestled in a corner of Boat Quay, Ö COMPTOIR is a modern French creperie and bar dishing out French savoury galettes and sweet crepes, from classic to fusion. Ö COMPTOIR’s chef comes directly from the French Brittany region, and his menu boasts of fusion savoury crepes, such as the Nordic Inspiration (Marinated Salmon, Baby Spinach, Dill Chantilly, Lemon Juice), Kao San Road (Pan-Fried Prawns, Egg, Tomatoes, Garlic, Soya, Mango, Mint) and Chase the Spices (Massala Chicken, Ginger, Onions, Peanuts, Chilli, Tomato, Fresh Cheese), made with a special buckwheat flour (read: gluten-free).
If you have a sweet tooth, Ö COMPTOIR provides sweet treats as well, such as their Normandy Landing: Homemade Salted Butter Caramel crepe, French Kiss: Chocolate and Berry Preserve and PS I Love You: Pineapple, Raspberry Coulis with 5 cl glass of Champagne, among many others.
Ö COMPTOIR serves the best of both worlds – sweet and savoury crepes alike. The savoury galette made out of buckwheat flour was light and fluffy, with a slight sour aftertaste. The Nordic Inspiration I had was light on the palate, refreshing and tasty. The salmon was well-marinated, with a good burst of flavours that was neither too mild nor overwhelming – delicately balanced.
On the whole, crepe lovers will find Ö COMPTOIR’s crepes a healthy dining option. For the rest, the diversity of Ö COMPTOIR’s menu makes it the perfect place for brunch or high tea in the day, and a perfect hangout spot for cocktails and drinks at night to unwind after a long day at work.
